About this deal

There are also trains from London Charing Cross, changing at St. Leonards Warrior Square and from London Bridge or Charing Cross going to Battle. Battle is only a short taxi journey away (15 mins approx). There are so many quotes that I put aside to reference, but there are honestly too many to count. Von Radics’ poems feel like walking through a dream, in the best way possible, and I come out hazy with a deep emotional understanding of what I have read. In the last poem, aptly titled, The Last Poem, I was left with a promise of joy. It is the perfect last poem for a collection that sees dark depths and the beginnings of tenderer love than before.

You will not remember, however, the day that you drove through rush hour traffic to stand before a judge and commit to divorce. A year later, you will look it up in your old calendar appointments. And you will forget it again. I could have watched Tala Madani’s Shit Moms Animation 1 (2022) forever. In what must be one of the more slip-sloppy animation techniques ever employed, Madani uses wet paint to send a pathetic brown and white paint mom from one room to the next in pointless putzing. Unfortunately, mom’s business mostly spreads shit everywhere. Sometimes she really gets into it and flings her shit around, and then she masturbates on a velvet chaise-long, which gets covered in shit. This is the best masturbation scene in all of art. It culminates in her slamming her head into a dining table and reforming the goo with her own hands. Then she stalks off to the next room. What isn’t to love? Motherhood isn’t that different. You expect a store, but instead, you are led to an unassuming house in the suburbs. A garage filled with separate containers of water, each accompanied by their own halfmoon betta fish. You stare at the wall. And again, unexpectedly, it takes just a few seconds, and you know which one is yours. They are moving with and against the water, shooting up, and sliding down again. Dreams can offer sources of inspiration, motivating us to change the circumstances of our lives. Similarly, storytelling and other approaches to narrative forms offer ways of examining and affecting reality. Employing these strategies of the imagination, the artworks in this exhibition offer refuge from systems of oppression and present vital perspectives that may help us to unsettle those systems. Reflecting on the social and historical conditions underpinning our ways of being in the world, the featured artists inspire us to tell new stories about who we are and what is possible for each of us. In this way, they invite us to imagine more equitable, joyful futures.

I love that her poems are so accessible. Anyone can read and enjoy and find something to which they can relate. I think she's an amazing example of how you do not have to use overly complicated, flowery language to say something profound. Something that will haunt the reader for the foreseeable future. The chill seeps into a section focused on death and rituals of grieving, in which the final scene from Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s The American Soldier (1970) plays on loop. In this mesmerizing homoerotic clip, one man throws himself onto the body of another, who has just been shot. In slow motion, the two of them twist around on the ground, in a morbid dance. In the case of multiple bidders placing the same maximum bid, the first person to place the maximum The phrase " In a dream you saw a way to survive and you were full of joy" debuted in Holzer's Survival Series (1983-1985), which warned about the dangers of everyday living.

The Survival Series slogans were originally shown on large electronic billboards in public spaces. Since then, Holzer has used this phrase on condom wrappers, marble benches, wooden postcards, and even t-shirts...among other iterations. Hauser & Wirth is foregoing any fee or commission on the sales, and all artists have agreed to donate their artwork so that at least half of the sale proceeds go to the identified New York nonprofits. After deduction of any share of proceeds to be retained by artist, and the reimbursement to Hauser & Wirth for its nominal fundraiser administration costs all proceeds will be donated to the identified New York nonprofits. That being said, there weren't really any poems in this that connected with me the same way as before. (Then again, sometimes it felt like "Dream Girl" was written for me alone. Just the poem about my decade long obsession, Courtney Love, hit home hard considering I read it in a room that used to be covered in her posters.) The poems felt more general than previously, and I found myself tiring from her heartbreak poems before I even really read them. With Clementine, I crave specificity. You believe the music will make you sad, and indeed, you do cry at first, but something larger is happening for you, that you can only grasp at. You are being emboldened to advocate for yourself, and for your love. How dare he trash it. But, he’s a character. Of course he would.I personally love to read poetry in the hours between midnight and four in the morning while I am most vulnerable. However, I saw that there was a Clementine von Radics collection on NetGalley and had to have it and had to read it right that second because I love and adore her and need her words in my brain all the time. Author’s voice from then and now, of course, had changed immensely! It was divided into two parts, when I began reading I had a hard time hitting the right tones of the voice. As to the experiences were not of mine personally nor I could connect with yet. It took me time to fully hit and felt emotions as to where and where it is all coming from; that was what I thought with the first part. As for the latter part, I liked it better! I felt the lyrical change and flow of the verses. Plus the good balance between the longer pieces and the short ones is something to note of. It does not come as overwhelming nor underwhelming to one. I own all of their books, "Dream Girl" being my favourite. I think I was looking for "In a Dream You Saw a Way to Survive" to make me feel like "Dream Girl" did. And why wouldn't it! The title is a damn Holzer truism for crying out loud. The cover is gorgeous. Filling most of the upper floor is Adriana Corral’s huge Unearthed: Desenterrado (2018), a cotton flag embroidered white-on-white with resplendent golden and bald eagles struggling mid-flight. The work was made in memoriam of the Mexican migrant workers in the Braseros program, which was guest worker program the US created to find agricultural workers when American soldiers were away fighting World War Two. While not directly explaining the cruelty of the program, the work exudes etherial sadness. On the wall behind, Corral’s ongoing Latitudes (2016-19) a series of blind emboss etchings, duplicate the complete Declaration of Human Rights in four languages, visible only by dint of the slight shadows; no ink was used. In Corral’s insistence on texture rather than visibility, the transference of information, humanity, and kindness must be felt, not seen.
