About this deal

The Dan Dare Corporation develops, exploits and protects the Intellectual Property rights on a worldwide basis. Through its operating divisions the Dan Dare Corporation provides expertise in Television, Movie, Radio, Publishing and Merchandising rights across all platforms. The Dan Dare Corporation has leased material from the revived Eagle to Hibernia Books (including "Doomlord", "The House of Daemon" and "The Tower King") [26] and Rebellion Developments ("The Thirteenth Floor"). Shortly afterwards, Vek was taken to Nox by a fail-safe device in the Deathlords' ship when he tried to use it to rescue the Space Shuttle. He convinced the Council that the death judgement was wrong and to lift the sentence of death from Earth; however his crimes against Nox meant he was returned to Earth in exile. [13] As protector of Earth, Vek repelled the Gemini Plague, genetically engineered parasitic insects used by the robotic Populators of Pollux to wipe out a planet's higher lifeforms in advance for use as a breeding ground [14] [15] He also hosted "The Doomlord Show", where he would kidnap various public figures, connect them to an electrified lie detector to reveal criminal or unethical behaviour, punish criminals with political connections who could avoid conventional justice, and even respond to phoned-in personal grievances, as he could teleport directly there and employ intimidation. [16] [17] He also dealt with the inadvertent revival of Zyn through stored tissue samples from Howard Harvey; Zyn resumed his attempts to execute humanity until Vek absorbed his life-force. [18] The early giveaways with the comic were an innovation because there wasn’t a lot of that happening in the British comic world – and there were lots of things that you could save up your tokens for and acquire.

So Vek is godlike on earth, in fairness he becomes a fairly likeable, benevolent God and I don’t think we see him kill any more humans except those who volunteer to have Doomlord resurrect inside them when he gets himself killed. I think it’s still very controversial, but overall the best Eagle comic. It ran for such a long time and then was rerun up to final Eagle issue, Jan. ’94, but I felt the author ran out of good ideas after Doomlord’s adventure, returning to Nox to lead its defence against the Reptallan army. Defeating the Reptallans and restoring Nox’s faith in him Eagle was founded by John Marcus Harston Morris (1915–1989). Morris was born in the Lancashire town of Preston, and in 1918 moved to Southport. He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford with a second-class degree in Literae Humaniores, and at Wycliffe Hall gained a second in theology in 1939. He became a priest the following year, and served as a chaplain in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve from 1941 to 1943. [6] AD Review - Doomlord - The Deathlords of Nox". 26 December 2005. Archived from the original on 26 December 2005.The popularity of comics which depicted war faded after the end of the Second World War, and Eagle's previously unheard-of circulation figures helped define the content of most comics produced during the 1950s, including war. In contrast to other, earlier publications, Eagle attempted to educate the reader with factual, text-based historical stories, such as the life of Winston Churchill, as presented in "The Happy Warrior". A detailed account of the Second World War was given, while one strip lambasted German paratroopers, who on seeing British infantry below them, shouted "Donner und Blitzen! Der Englander!" [67] During the mid-1950s however, comics began sensationalising their covers with war imagery, and Eagle followed suit in the 1960s. [68]

In 2007–2008 Virgin Comics published a 7-issue Dan Dare mini-series written by Garth Ennis, with art by Gary Erskine. [9] Virgin's founder and chairman Richard Branson is a fan of the character. [10] The series is set several years after the original strips. Space Fleet has collapsed along with the UN due to nuclear war between China and America; Britain survived due to defensive shields made by Professor Peabody, and has become a world power again as a result, with the Royal Navy taking Space Fleet's role. Peabody is the Home Secretary to a prime minister modelled on Tony Blair, who has sold Earth's defence out to The Mekon out of fear of overwhelming odds. Dare, assisted by Digby (who sacrifices himself in battle) leads a spirited defence of both Earth and his honourable principles. Charles Hamilton: The man with many pseudonyms and the worlds most prolific writer is lovingly remembered here. A highly recommended read!!!! Despite the series' popularity with readers, falling sales saw it end in October 1989 as more and more of Eagle switched to reprints. Selected reprints followed until April 1990, but the strip was dropped completely for Eagle's last revamp. [1]

But when they started touting the idea around the publishing houses in London people found the religious message to be too strong so the character became Dan Dare, named after a hymn called ‘Dare to be a Daniel’, which was Frank Hampson’s mother’s favourite hymn. The new Eagle also consumed Scream! in 1984, Tiger in 1985, M.A.S.K. in 1988 and Wildcat in 1989. [5] The story " The Thirteenth Floor" from Scream! continued in the Eagle until 1987, and its lead character, Max, purported to be the comic's editor for several years after the story finished [62] (starting in #159). Condensed adaptation of three C. S. Forester novels, The Happy Return (1937), A Ship of the Line (1938) & Flying Colours (1938), illustrated by Martin AitchisonTomlinson had created the new fortnightly Wildcat shortly after Battle's closure. The title was a science fiction anthology with the five strips all being centred on the exploits of different characters from the eponymous spacecraft. However, it failed to find an audience and merged with Eagle after only 12 issues, with the four main features from the comic rotating until petering out in 1990. [21] Eagle [ edit ]
