Imagine if your mobile phone could only display its remaining charge in 20% increments – i.e. it could only say 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% or 100% – it would be pretty annoying right? Additionally, LiFePO4 batteries weigh less than half of a lead-acid battery of similar capacity, so no more lugging your Bluetti solar generator around. The EB70 is super light and portable. 3. Bluetti EB70 Recharge Options At 11am the next day, the situation was very different. In direct sunlight I managed to get around 150W of power. This would charge the EB70 in around 4.5 hours which is not bad at all, assuming that this power could be maintained. This is the whole crux of the conundrum with solar panels + storage – can you maintain the power? Note: For some devices with motor/compressor built inside, the instant start-up power maybe 2-4 times more than the rated power, which may exceed the upper limit of the EB70. First, there’s the total battery capacity, which we just discussed. Secondly, there’s the total maximum wattage at any given time. In the EB70’s case, that number is 700 watts. No matter how full the battery is, you can never draw more than 700 watts at a time. If you do, the on-board safety system will automatically shut off the power station to prevent damage. This is perhaps the EB70’s most limiting factor. For example, we just mentioned the example of a microwave. But a 700-watt microwave is a very small microwave. If you’re using even a mid-sized model, you won’t be able to power it with the EB70. But when will it run out of power? The display of the EB70 is so unclear on this subject that it’s very difficult to ascertain. Have you got an hour of charge left or will it go in the next five minutes? You have no real way of knowing. Please Bluetti, sort out a software update to fix this!
