About this deal

You have never seen animation like this before. This does take a few mins to settle down. But after the first set piece battle, you will be well into this. There is one sequence that those who are sensitive to flashing lights will have to close their eyes for. But just one.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has opening credits which are like a bubblegum nightmare with pastel shades of colour. As for Spider-Woman, Chris Miller explained she'll be a mentor to Gwen and that her movie look is inspired by a "comic run when she's pregnant during Secret Wars". Spider-Woman isn't the only Spider-Force individual that Spider-Gwen is close to, either. She's also pretty close to Spider-Punk, which makes Miles a little more than jealous of their friendship.

Customer reviews

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is rated PG. Parental guidance is suggested, meaning some material may not be suitable for children. Parents are urged to give "parental guidance." The movie may contain some material parents might not like for their young children. 9.1

Even so, an amazing movie experience. Part three could be a while. No eta at the time of writing. All good things to those who wait. The disc begins with a short anti piracy ad. Which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. Miles carries on his double life. He reunites with Gwen. But she's got a problem. Then Miles meets his arch nemesis. Supposedly. The Spot! The pair also told TechRadar that most fan theories are "way off base". Make of that what you will before we enter potential spoiler territory, which is happening right about... now. Very little is known about this movie. Well, that's the case if you haven't seen Across the Spider-Verse yet. We could discuss its ending here, but we don't want to ruin any of the big surprises for you. As mentioned in our introduction, you can read our spoiler-heavy ending explainer to find out how it sets up Beyond the Spider-Verse.Occasionally, descriptive text pops up onscreen, such as describing the word ‘Hammerspace’ when it’s mentioned, plus with someclever dialogue, such as when one character says “Go to Helvetica!”, another responds, “Bold!” Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson’s intriguing animation film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, made its anticipated debut on the big screen on June 2nd, 2023. Initially, we thought Spider-Man 2099 would be Miles' new mentor. However, with Peter B. Parker confirmed to return, plus Spider-Man 2099 grappling with Miles in every trailer, it seems they'll end up clashing. The story synopsis also makes out that a Spidey civil war is on the way, so maybe Miles and Spider-Man 2099 become the figureheads of each faction, with Gwen caught in the middle. Speaking to EW, Miller teased: "He [Spider-Man 2009] is not the villain of the movie, but he's sort of an antagonist to Miles because they both think that what they're doing is the right thing."

Lord and Miller have also hinted it might tie into theMCU and Sony's wider Spider-Man universe (SSU). Speaking on the Happy Sad Confusedpodcast, Miller said: "The multiverse is big and wide, and all things grow. Why would you think [that in] a multiverse, in which many things are possible, that [those things are] not related?" I’m quite glad I didn’t see the first film, in the end, since I’d have struggled to sit through it if it’s just more of the same, flashing a load of nonsense before my eyes, but with the easy option to switch it off. Creating the Ultimate Spider-Man movie. Fourteen mins on the creation of the movie. Pretty absorbing stuff and it does go into good detail. It's not just a publicity piece. That is the only issue anyone could have with this movie. The slowing down and leaving it hanging that is, not that more is to come. Because otherwise it really an amazing film. It's a PG certificate so a bit too much perhaps for the very young to take in. I will say though it doesn't have anything, even with all that the animation does, that should bother epileptics or anyone who can't handle flashing lights. I am in the latter group and was fine with it. So that was nice.

It is loaded with continuity references. But this won't put non comic readers off. It is also firmly character driven and full of genuine emotion. It manages to balance it out perfectly with the humour. The Spot is the primary villain for the next two animated Spider-Man movies. (Image credit: Sony Pictures)
