About this deal

Manchester, United Kingdom – Thursday 27th January, 2022, Holdan, a specialist distributor to the professional video, broadcast and photography sector, has today announced Samyang’s autofocus evolution of its popular 135mm prime lens. It is exclusively distributed by them in the UK and Ireland. When turning the aberrations corrections off in the camera the Sony 135mm GM actually shows a lot of darkening in the corners which clear only somewhere between f/4 and f/5.6. I don´t use religion to prove a very personal and self-serving opinion. Nothing is "Certain". Has anyone ever seen a photographer with Both lenses present no visible pincushion or barrel distortion even with the auto-correction turned off in the camera. I found the 135mm to be brilliantly sharp, and a pleasure to work with, mostly. It was challenging, and a little frustrating at times, but overall quite good fun. The 135mm threw me out a little, as I’m used to shooting with much wider lenses. It took some getting used to the idea that the camera had to be so far away most of the time.

I have the Focus Hold button programmed to allow me to switch eyes during Eye AF for portraits, and that can be very handy when you consider how shallow the depth of field can be with a long lens like this that happens to have a very large maximum aperture. Finally, we decided to shoot some action shots at the skate park with both lenses. We got some OK shots but we also had some misses with both lenses although this is more likely related to human error than to hardware limitations. The Samyang AF 135mm f/1.8 FE is lighter than other 135mm lenses compatible with full-frame Sony FE mount, but it realizes overwhelming resolution in the entire image area and expresses the subject with clear image quality,” the company says. “You can capture the subject’s details from the fluttering hairs of models to the twinkling of nebulae light-years away with unprecedented resolution.” While Sony's FE 135mm f/1.8 GM is an excellent lens, Samyang's new 135mm f/1.8 AF is effectively half the price – and that could represent great value for hobbyist shooters who can't justify pro-level price tags, particularly for a relatively specialist focal length.Entre les deux si le critère prix n’est pas important c’est principalement une légère différence de rendu et un AF compatible avec une pratique sportive pour le Sony

Samyang says that its new telephoto AF 135mm f/1.8 FE lens is equipped with outstanding optical performance as well as autofocus capabilities that the company has been steadily evolving over the last few years. The lens is touted as having superb resolution and ultra-precise aspherical lenses that create a soft bokeh combined with sharp rendition of subjects. The company also says that despite these advancements, the lens is still lightweight which makes it suitable for hand-holding in various applications like portraiture and landscape work.Next, we moved to the AF test. This is where a lot of the differences between first- and third-party lenses can be found these days. We tested both lenses in stills and video shooting two targets about 3 meters apart in both lit and ultra-dim conditions (ISO 12,800). I found that this lens is particularly hungry in term of battery. My battery has drained 50% faster than with other lenses. Samyang has solved this issue with a firmware upgrade in April 2022 If you are after this focal length for portrait photography or more, this is a superb choice. I have used, tried, and tested a lot of lenses here on this channel and I do actually use G Master lenses in my professional workflow, and this doesn’t disappoint at all. It compares very well to the BEST out there Review by Pav SZ Sony 135mm f/1.8 and f/2.8 top (left and right respectively) and Samyang-135mm (same, button) close up center sharpness The two lenses are almost identical in size at 13.5cm/5.3” and the Samyang feels a hair wider at just over 8.5cm/3.3” (the Sony is closer to 8cm). Rings

The best standpoint from which to appreciate the full view of a subject is the distance of the diagonal length of the subject frame. This wider angle is superior to standing closer at a 50 degree angle to get a more detailed view. Unsparing application of Samyang's most advanced optical technologies has produced a large-aperture prime telephoto lens that delivers outstanding corner-to-corner resolution. The AF 135mm F1.8 FE delivers an 18.9° angle of view for full-frame and 12.5° for APS-C. It features a bright maximum aperture of F1.8, as favoured by full-frame camera users. In particular, optimum resolution is achieved through the optical design of 13 elements in 11 groups (1 U-ASP, 2 HR and 3 ED). Combined with Sony's full-frame image sensor, this lens delivers superior sharpness and contrast in all areas of the image. Able to deliver extremely narrow depth of field, with beautiful bokeh Sony 135mm GM vignetter (corrections off) – top left – f/1.8, top right – f/2.8, bottom left – f/4, bottom right – f/5.6 The Samyang 135mm is the cheapest AF one and the lightest of the F1.8. It has a very good build quality but the Sony is a bit better in that matter. The Samyang has the shortest min focusing distance by a tiny hair The SAMYANG 135mm F1.8 AF and the Sony FE 135mm F1.8 GM are ahead of the Sigma 135mm F/1.8 DG HSM Art / Samyang 135mm F2 AS UMC / Zeiss Batis 135mm F2.8Looking into the performance of the two lenses we would say that despite searching very hard, both lenses seem to produce almost exactly the same results – that is to say fantastic images with very few weak spots. Apart from the astrophotography that was not tested because of the weather, the lens was faultless in its operation. Suitable subjects are landscapes, architecture, portraiture, sports events, street and low light. The SteadyShot system built into Sony camera bodies effectively helps to keep images as crisp as possible. The AF range is set from 1.5m to infinity, which is suitable for normal shooting. Short minimum focal distance of 0.69m We also decided to see how the Sony 135GM which has breathing compensation support will function on our A7 IV. To our surprise, it seems that the compensation, in this case, does not eliminate the breathing completely but it does seem to help (we are still waiting for this feature to arrive to our A1). Chromatic aberrations The Samyang has 13 elements in 11 groups including one U-ASP, two HR, and three ED elements. Materials

The Sony is also outstanding in term of sharpness but a tiny bit less sharp than the Samyang, It is the best one in term of AF for sports , it has a little bit better bokeh balls (more rounded as of F4) and a mure subtle and gentle color rendering The Samyang MF 135mm F2.0 ED UMC is a telephoto lens that has been loved by many people for its excellent resolution since its launch in 2015. Typically, it was admired as a lens for portrait photography, but over time, the MF 135mm went beyond portraits and also became popular for shooting landscapes and astrophotography. Accordingly, Samyang Optics has decided to release an AF evolution of this lens, adding convenience for every user and genre of photography. Sony 135mm f/1.8 and f/2.8 top (left and right respectively) and Samyang-135mm (same, button) corner sharpness with the same basic picture qualities, Etc. I have a D750 and D858 with 18-35 3.5, 28mm 1.8, and 85 1.8 (An 105 2.8 might be a betterFlare is virtually non-existent, the UMC coating being superb at suppressing any artefacts and maintaining contrast even in challenging lighting conditions. Tip. If the moving distance is long, the camera may shake, so please shoot at a focal length between 35 and 100mm. Both lenses seem to be pretty susceptible to direct front light and strong flare even with the hood so try to avoid this as much as possible (see video). Vignette
