About this deal

Each bar offers around 15g of protein and a decent amount of fibre to keep you feeling full for longer. There are no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives, and the bars are naturally sweetened. Plant based proteins are the name of the game here, and everything is completely natural. Cost (10/10) –Not only are the bars on the cheap end individually, but they also contain a lot of protein, so they are actually the cheapest overall bar per 10g of protein. Protein content (10/10) – Exactly 40% of the total calories come from protein (mainly soy protein isolate) and it’s low in sugar. This is a very high protein content for a bar, only a few beat it ( 42.1% is the highest). The classic Berry Delight is also worth sampling, as is the more luxurious Strawberry Sundae. Whatever you choose, you can be assured that you’re getting a big dose of protein and an array of other healthy, natural ingredients too.

These bars were supposed to be the best of the best vegan protein bars, and I wanted to put that to the test. Green Tea Extract: The benefits of this ingredient are two-fold. Studies [6] have shown that thanks to something called “catechins”, green tea extract helps with weight loss and maintenance. Plus, green tea extract has antioxidant properties [7], meaning that it helps protect your cells against damage. Conjugated Linoleic Acid: Your first instinct might be to recoil when you hear that this ingredient is basically fat if your goal is weight loss. But, fear not, research [5] has shown that consuming CLA, accompanied by exercise, actually helps to reduce body fat in healthy people. The third “first place” protein bar also has palm oil, but is a lot “healthier” than the Clif bars (above). Wholegrain oat-blend protein bars are some of the most popular options, as they can provide up to 30 per cent of your RDA for fibre. Most protein bars are also bolstered with between 15 and 20 vitamins and minerals, with a focus on antioxidants and vitamins C and E, which will help lessen DOMS.With that, we think that these are amongst the best gluten free protein bars in the UK that we’d recommend giving a go. When a company attempts to make protein bars gluten free, they often do so at the expense of taste, but this isn’t the case with Pulsin. We loved all the flavours on offer, especially the Caramel Choc Chip & Peanut, which feels dense and has a real crunch. This particular bar is also high in fibre, so it will make you feel fuller for longer.

There’s a lot of sugar per bar though, with multiple forms of sugar and syrups (e.g. brown rice syrup, beet syrup, and more) in the ingredients list. Cost (8/10) –The bars are quite cheap, especially if you can find them at Costco. But since they have less protein than others, the cost per 10 grams isn’t perfect.Bars come in a range of flavours, and our favourite is probably the Blueberry Muffin. It really does taste like its much more unhealthy namesake, and it's loaded with enough fruits to count as one of your five a day. The ingredient list is refreshingly simple, and the bar contains an impressive 58% dates and 15% cashews, with a few more nuts and fruits thrown in for good measure. Rise Bars tend to rank very highly among nutritionists, and with good reason. Rise prides itself on using no more than 5 ingredients per bar, so you always know exactly what you’re getting, and there aren’t any additives or other unwanted additions. We love this emphasis on simplicity and purity of recipe, and Rise bars also provide some of the most balanced nutrition available. Inulin: This prebiotic helps healthy bacteria to grow in your stomach, improving your digestion. Plus, one study [4] found that inulin intake helps with weight loss by reducing body fat. I had this for lunch one day, and in all honesty, I did feel pretty satisfied for a good few hours which surprised me. It tasted lovely (I went for Double Milk Chocolate) and there is a range of flavours to choose from. Plus, it mixes well and isn’t chalky or grainy. The sweetener in this shake, much like the Vegan Wondershake, might not sit well with everyone, but for this particular meal, I felt fine.
