About this deal

Why, thank you book for all these wonderful platitudes. We need to part ways now though, at 35%, but don't worry, I'll compile here every amazing moment we shared together.

They’re good friends, and they talk about movies. Bailey lives in Washington with her mom and stepdad but decides to move to California to live with her dad. That brings Alex into situations in which she’s been talking to you. Tim gets the job working for Grace’s campaign and interviews with Mr. Garrett for a job in the hardware store. Mr. Garrett hires Tim under the condition that he attend 90 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in 90 days, and Tim reluctantly agrees. I dislike this weird dynamic between Jase, Sam and Tim. And at one point, I just couldn't care any less to understand. The Garrett Family: Sigh…this family is just perfect. They are loud, messy, chaotic and intense, and you’ll never find another family who love each other so fiercely. It’s apparent that Huntley has strong family bond of her own, because the relationships that she creates between all of the members of this wild clan are totally relatable and authentic. So much of “My Life Next Door’ is filled with real, every day moments, and I couldn’t get enough of the dynamics of the Garrett family and how amazing they were. A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another

Samantha pressures Clay and Grace once more to come forward with the truth. Clay responds by threatening to put the Garretts’ hardware store out of business if she doesn’t break up with Jase. Samantha acquiesces, and falls into depression. After talking with Tim, he convinces her to tell Jase what happened to his father. To her surprise, he forgives her. When Clay discovers that Jase knows, he argues that if Grace is charged, Samantha will suffer as well. Grace resolves to talk to the Garretts, and Clay breaks up with her. I might combust from butterflies each time he opens his I loved the main character, Samantha. There was something about her dreamy way of beeing, about the way she thought about and watched from afar the family next door so opposed to her own, the way she started to feel so loved by some people that she barely knew, the way she needed to live for once after all that watching-other-people-live-their-lives thing she's been doing. What I wanted: A summertime romance, light and lovely and swoony with just the right amount of heartbreak. The story revolves around Samantha Reed, a responsible and disciplined seventeen-year-old girl who has always lived an organized and predictable life. She belongs to a well-off family with a politician mother who prioritizes their public image over everything else. Samantha has always looked at her neighbors, the Garretts, from afar, longing for the warmth, chaos, and love that seems to radiate from their household. After seeing Clay and her mother passionately kissing on the family’s front porch, Samantha often wonders about the nature of Grace and Clay’s relationship. The thought usually grosses her out. Grace is unusually agreeable to Clay’s suggestions, which prompts Nan to ask Samantha if sex is what caused the changes in Grace’s attitude and demeanor. The theme of loyalty is present in this novel as the protagonist (Sam) has to choose between her mother who is guilty and her boyfriend who is struggling to support his family as a result of her mother's actions. This introduces the idea of loyalty as it asks the question of where a person's natural loyalties should lie.

The novel then jumps 10 years into the future. Samantha is on summer break before her last year of high school. Grace is now a state senator running for reelection and Tracy waitresses in Martha’s Vineyard to save money before starting college in the fall. One night, Samantha discovers her mom and her young political advisor making out. Irritated, she withdraws to her private spot on the roof. Jase, her neighbor, joins her. A few days later, he invites her into his house, where she is surprised at his family’s disorganized and crowded life. Mrs. Garrett asks Samantha to babysit the younger kids, and she agrees despite knowing her mother’s objections. At the story’s beginning, she’s forced to get a job, and at this job, she becomes friends with girls and starts discovering that she might have this other side to her. Then she also starts to have these secret, midnight conversations with her brother’s friend who lives next door, over the fence, with each other. A relationship begins to build and change from those meetings that they have. Like My Life Next Door, It’s a story about discovering yourself and being true to who you are.

The thing is, I did not really hate this one. Jace does have an interesting family. One kid named George that I'm gonna marry one of these days. George saved this book. One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”So yeah, a bit of a mixed bag really. There were aspects of it that I liked, and other parts that didn’t really work for me. Maybe my expectations were too high? Possibly. But bottom line - this isn’t the story that I was expecting, and it wasn’t the story that I wanted for Tim. Alice is a control freak. She is always trying to keep Harry, George, Duff, Patsy, and Andy in line. Joel, the oldest Garrett kid, is on his own, living his life. Alice is the second, Jase is the third. Jase is going to college, but Alice had to defer, with the new Garrett baby and their father's injuries. Alice is a second mother, and a control freak. She likes being the dominate one in relationships, and is a bit of a heartless b****. Except around Tim. I know that this seems somewhat vague, that’s intentional because there are some things that I can’t divulge. You’ll have to read to find out what those things are, and I promise you'll thank me for letting you experience it as Tim's story unfolds. c) This 17 year old dude was a little too responsible, I mean not even a 27 year old man is, but that's okay.
