About this deal

We used some left over sweet wrappers to roll the gelli dough into balls and wrap them up. I also added some tinsel for a bit more colour and to add some extra sparkle.

My kids love playdough and while we love the smell of store bought playdough, we usually prefer to make our own. From our Easter Carrot Playdough to our Grinch Playdough, this sparkly galaxy playdough has been added to our collection of fun modeling play. We found this idea over at The Kids Activities Blog, which is filled with fun activities for your kids! We decided we wanted to use our favorite playdough recipe to recreate this out of this world playdough. In fact, for many years, we didn’t even have any play-dough in our house because I figured the mess would probably make me crazy. But Sonia and Zoe got some cans of Play-Doh as a gift a year or two ago, and since they’re not preschoolers anymore, the mess hasn’t been that bad. Or dip it into a bowl of water, then rework it until it softens and stops feeling slimy. This can be a messy job, so do it over the bowl or over a sink. Leave the dough so that it has chance to firm up a bit before playing. We left ours over night – not in the fridge as we had no space although that might help. It was fine outside though!

In my blog research for this project, I came across the idea of adding glitter to the dough, which I think is brilliant. It’s probably the least messy use for glitter I’ve ever seen, actually. Kids love squishing and mixing playdough colors. This is the perfect activity for that. I mean, what is a play dough rainbow if you can’t squish all the colors together? The swirls of color were simply beautiful. The fun thing about this recipe is you can keep adding glitter as it gets absorbed into the playdough so it never loses its sparkle. To get the glitter effect throughout the dough, I used diluted glitter paint ( similar to this) rather than plain water to hydrate the gelli baff.

If using the plain sodium polyacrylate or insta snow then you will need to add your own colouring to the dough, whereas the Gelli Baff option does all that for you. The best thing about playdough is that it is a brilliant tool to help develop a child’s fine motor skills as well as letting their imagination run wild. Step Four: mix the ingredients together to form a dough and you are ready to play. Play dough problems: solved Sparkly Galaxy Playdough: a soft colorful playdough that is perfect for out of this world play! Shades of pinks, purples, and blue blend together for a galaxy look. Add a touch of stars and glitter for a fun playtime activity.

Want your play dough to last a long time? Wrap it up well in a plastic bag as soon as you’ve finished playing and your play dough could last for months. Give kids a variety of rolling pins, cookie cutters, decorative pattern scissors and stamps to manipulate the dough. Both recipes are super simple and show you how to make playdough without salt. Also a great solution if you are looking for a uncooked playdough recipe.

Glitter, glitter and more glitter (according to my kids) made this the best playdough recipe ever. You can never have too much glitter. or 2 TBSP Vegetable Oil ~ I have used both measurements successfully and love how soft it makes the dough feel.

Place the playdough on a piece of parchment or wax paper and allow to cool to the touch. Once it’s cool to the touch add your corresponding glitter to the playdough and mix until it’s fully incorporated.
