About this deal

Bert and Frank love going for bike rides – or rather they would if Bert could only stop creating chaos when he wibble-wobbles. I think this book is really funny because it says ‘I will put ants in your pants that will make you want to dance’ and it says ‘poopy doopy’. I liked singing the songs out loud. My favourite part is where Blanksy finds some paint and paint brushes.

In this fun, interactive workshop, Finlay will share his wealth of experience from an exciting career, with recent credits including Scottish Opera Young Company, Outlander and Indiana Jones. I love how colourful the front cover of this book is, it made me to want to read it. The size of the book is a perfect to put in my bag to take on holiday. It is refreshing to read a book for children with characters who are homeless but are portrayed positively. There is certainly not a victim narrative in this story and it clearly communicates why Pete likes his lifestyle – and that it is a conscious choice. Therefore, it provides an opportunity for discussion with children about homes and how different people may choose to live. Allen Fatimaharan was born in Sri Lanka, but grew up in Southern India and France. Now living in the UK, he works as an illustrator and animator. In 2018 he won second place in the FAB Prize for illustration. My Hair was his first picture book. Allen, who is this year’s World Book Day illustrator, said: “We can’t wait to bring Blanksy the Street Cat to Big DoG festival.A conversation with two young avid readers reminded me of a book published some time ago that they particularly liked. I make no apology therefore for including Katherine Rundell’s The Explorer which is everything a children’s adventure story should be.

We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. For more details, please consult the latest information provided by Royal Mail's International Incident Bulletin. Record-holding Paralympian swimming champion Ellie Robinson will read from her forthcoming book The Gold Medal Mysteries. This is especially exciting as audiences for Ellie’s event can buy exclusive advance copies of the book – meaning they will be some of the first people anywhere to read it. When Blanksy the cat discovers a talent for painting murals he uses it to draw bigger and bigger crowds to help his friend Pete the busker become rich. But will money really make Pete happy?Natasha Farrant’s The Rescue at Ravenwood is another first-rate story, this time about Bea, Raffy and Noa’s fight to save the beautiful house which is their home. Hooked is for 14 to 26 year olds and focuses on professional development in the arts sector, alongside author talks and entertainment. Moat Brae looks like a fantastic venue for Blanksy to unleash his artistic creativity and I’m excited to visit Dumfries for the first time.”
