About this deal

Accessory elements include an airtank and helmet for each minifigure, Benny's walkie-talkie, *Lenny's wrench and Kenny's metal detector. Lastly, Classic Space was also filled with all sorts of Robots, and you piece together a small but charming little Spacebot. I really love the use of the trans-yellow cheese slope on its body.

Benny was among the most popular characters to appear in The LEGO Movie from 2014, as one might expect given his origins in Classic Space. This magnificent subtheme has remained iconic across four decades, inspiring great excitement following the announcement of 70841 Benny's Space Squad! Here’s a look at the Yellow and White Classic Space Minifigures, named Kenny and Jenny respectively. For those that are unaware, each Classic Space minifigure colour denotes a specific role that each Spaceman specialises in: Lego released the first sets from the second dose of The Lego Movie at the end of last year since which it’s also announced more sets including the range-topping Welcome to Apocalypeburg And Rex’s Explorer. Rex's Explorer is the only set not out yet.

LEGO Classic Spaceship Video

The original Classic Space astronauts were only available in red and white, although a yellow minifigure appeared in 1979. Kenny takes inspiration from that design, featuring a yellow helmet without a broken chin strap which appears nearly identical to its predecessor. However, closer inspection reveals certain differences between them as the new element is bulkier than the older version, reducing the chance of breakage.

The fourth astronaut is named Jenny. Her white suit appeared in 1978 and few alterations have been made. This helmet is more robust than the original design and the printing on the torso seems brighter than that seen on the earlier version, although that might be a partial result of age. Nevertheless, these minifigures are excellent and they come with a selection of traditional equipment, including a wrench, a radio and a metal detector. Here we have Lenny, the brand new Pink Classic Space minifigure, and Benny, the Spaceship-crazed astronaut who debuted in the first LEGO Movie who is best known for this iconic scene. It would also make sense to have a successor to Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship SPACESHIP which was one of THE standout sets of the 1st LEGO Movie.

The piece numbers on this set are extremely low, at less than 70, but let’s face it, you’re not buying this set for the rudimentary builds, this is very much about the minifigures on offer. Aren’t they glorious? Benny’s Space Squad is made up of a colourful collection of clones with similar names, Jenny, Kenny, and Lenny and with the exception of their colour you can’t tell them apart. Whether you grew up with Classic Space sets during the 1980s or have only recently encountered the series, 70841 Benny's Space Squad is a phenomenal set! It contains a brilliant selection of minifigures and represents a perfect combination of old and new in my opinion, capturing the essence of the early designs from Classic Space but using modern elements where necessary.
