About this deal

As well as considering the height of the fan for clearance, you’ll also need to consider the stove surface. The base size of stove fans can vary, and some models may not suit your stove, particularly if the stove surface is small or raised.

The fight rages on about how many blades make for the most effective stove fan. You can easily find models with two blades, or six blades, and everything in between. So how do you decide which is the best stove fan? Stove fans are designed to create a gentle airflow around the room so that the room will feel more evenly heated instead of being hot near the fire and colder the further away you move. They’ll also recommend that the fan is placed on a flat and smooth surface so that the heat can be absorbed more efficiently by the fan. Bigger rooms require stove fans with greater air-moving capacities — something measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Therefore, stove fans with a higher CFM will mean you will use less fuel for burning in your stove.

Wood stove fans will typically only be able to work within a certain temperature range, and the hotter the stove is running the more air can typically be distributed by the fan. It begins to turn automatically when the temperature from the stove reaches 85 °C. At this point, it will help to circulate the warm air around the room, preventing it from simply rising to the ceiling. The stove’s maximum temperature shouldn’t exceed 345 °C . So, how all these stove fans work is the base of the fan conducts the heat from the stovetop and converts it to electricity, this is what powers the blades.

Most stove models aren't able to produce more airflow than ~250 CFM. The fan that we're reviewing here has no issues reaching 430 CFM. Of course, the difference stems from the model's double-head build. Equipped with 8 blades, the fan circulates 50% more warm air compared to traditional 4-blade fans, making the model the most effective and, at the same time, efficient way to heat any room from the stove. If you only have space for a small stove fan, but want the power of a larger model, it’s possible to use more than one fan at a time (as long as there is sufficient surface area on top of your stove). You can either use several smaller fans, or buy a unit that uses dual fans supported on one base. For newer, more efficient models of wood stove that can transfer the heat from the fire to the room very well, a fan may not be a requirement, and using a fan may only make a slight bit of difference to the warmth you can feel. Due to the fact that hot air rises upwards straightly, most of the heat from your stove simply escapes directly above and gathers around the ceiling. The aim of a stove fan is to stop hot air from collecting around the wood stove, or from rising to the ceiling without benefitting the rest of the room. A stove fan will catch the heat before it has a chance to rise, and push it further out into the room. It will also improve circulation, better cycling warm air and cooler air throughout the space. If a stovetop gets too hot it can actually damage the stove fan and void the warranty. I recommend you use a stove-top thermometer to monitor the temperature of the stove. Most stove fans have a maximum temperature that they can handle which is usually around 350°C. Without a fan, the heat from a wood stove can often simply rise straight up and become trapped at the top of the room. The only issue we have with the model's operation is these whirring sounds that the fan makes during use. They're barely audible though since the fan never goes above 25 decibels. Other than that, its anodised aluminium body is rustproof and wear-resistant, so you shouldn't have any problems with the fan in the long run.
