About this deal

In Mind Management, Not Time Management , best-selling author David Kadavy shares the fruits of his decade-long deep dive into how to truly be productive in a constantly changing world.

Love your prefrontal cortex: Your prefrontal cortex is the “newest” (in terms of evolution) part of your brain. My best creative time, like his, is first thing in the morning, so that's my Bible study and writing time four days per week. What we learn here is a quite long tale of at the end it’s about breathing in life and whatever it may bring, being kind to others and ourselves and finding our own rhythm to produce what we can be proud of. This seems unrealistic, but certainly I could have employed a strategy that could have made the process less agonizing. I’m no GTD expert, and I think GTD needs to be modified for each, but I think he’s talking about a Tickler File, not an inbox. No funcionamos igual a lo largo del día, y cada persona tiene sus picos mentales en distintos momentos del día.

From a company’s perspective, they create strength “ by lavishly using the executive’s time,” [3] as Drucker noted, which results in the imposition of meetings and activities that don’t fit within a framework easily. With Kadavy's principles, we can stop struggling to achieve solutions and start letting those solutions "come to us. Even if something is in my calendar, the act of typing it out into this list helps program it into my brain, while also reminding me to think about any details I might not have thought about yet (for example, if my flight on Wednesday is at 2pm, what time should I head to the airport?

Mind Management, Not Time Management: Productivity When Creativity Matters is a gripping blend of inspiring insights and actionable practices that will make you want to grab pen and paper, put your fingers to strings, or start in on a blank canvas. I liked details of how our work can be managed with mind,be it any creative work or even housekeeping. By really understanding how your brain works, you can have a framework with which to understand what is going on with your mind, and thus, you’ll be better equipped to know how to better use your precious mental energy. How effectively we spend those hours really depends upon how well we can manage and harness our fragile mental energy.

In the past two decades we have seen the introduction of digital assistants, smartphones, and smart watches. And a nice collection of tips, some of them quite similar to what I had discovered myself—so I suspect the other ones are worth trying, too. If any of this strikes a chord, or you are seeking some ideas to prompt a state of flow, or you just like reading about productivity styles (which if you've made it this far, is probably you!

Kadavy argues that there are seven mental states, and for us to maximize effectiveness, we need to understand when we are in each of them and how to align ourselves with them. Instead of arming you with rose-colored glasses and dragging you deeper into the wishful thinking swamp, like so many "self-help" books do, this book walks you through the author's journey of understanding, embracing and leveraging your own mind. I understand how the author perfected his own creativity system, and there are some useful nuggets there, but is it something applicable to every life? When 4:00 comes around, assuming I even still have that time available, my mind is frazzled, and I don't have the creative energy to develop the slides on my task list.
