Over the years those who are keen to get rid of their clutter could literally be counting the costs having potentially thrown away a fortune disposing of memorabilia they perhaps thought wasn’t worth keeping. Judith’s friends looked on, totally bewildered, when she got excited about 18th-century plates, and decorated her flat with piles of ceramics. In 1985, this culminated in Chilston Park, a Grade I-listed house in Kent, empty for more than a decade, which he decided to turn into a hotel.Judith went to the local comprehensive, Galashiels Academy, then read English at Edinburgh University, where she started to collect old plates and saucers with exotic Chinoiserie themes for a few pence apiece to cheer up her student room.
