When all the restaurants in NYC shut down, I knew it was my chance to get out of the restaurant industry for good, and find something else to do for money that would use my innovative creativity and storytelling skills. And I think that's wonderful, but I believe using examples of overcoming trauma to promote any MINDSET work without acknowledging the effect that mental health has on the process is harmful. The examples used in this book read oddly, because the author seems to compare situations that are just not on the same level, from women in developing countries facing difficulties to the author learning to ride a scooter on holiday. Some jarring juxtapositions aside, it was just a surface level pop culture-y feel good pizazz party.

It doesn't matter how many versions of the same thing you think already exist or have been done by more talented qualified or famous people. In the same league as some of my other favorites like Deep Work, Atomic Habits, and The 5 Second Rule. Another super helpful piece of advice offered in the book was that you should not consider setbacks and missteps as failures — you should accept them as lessons, instead. I feel like for that moment on, it has been the single biggest driving belief, force, conviction, mantra that has taken me through every single crevice of my life.One great way to fast-track learning and growth is to get into the habit of starting things before you're ready.

In fact, I'm an avid listener of her podcast, and, every once in a while, I watch her episodes from MarieTV. But again, I think authors who are claiming their methods work for addiction and mental health issues have a responsibility to proceed with caution, and I don't feel that Marie did. Obviously this is something I’ve been doing for a while and it’s a concept that I’ve lived for a while, but there were some pieces that really resonated deeply. I just think the scope of audience should have been limited to entrepreneurs or would-be entrepreneurs, rather than anyone with most any problem.

One of my biggest goals this year is to finish a book I started writing 7 years ago, and I can’t think of a better instigator at night than this one. She knows that Everything is Figureoutable is the synthesis of my life, career, journey, and purpose on this earth. Life is not one size fits all so just because I wasn't a fan of this book doesn't mean it can't be life changing for you. When I got close to the house, I looked up and my mom was perched very precariously on the roof of our two-story house. If there weren’t women who believed that we should have the right to vote, and fought for years and decades, we would’ve never had that.
