About this deal

I’m hoping to pick up some gardening tips too, as there is a feature for the best gardening and planting times every month. The Hogarth Press where I’m working, is in the heart of the literary world, with authors coming in all the time. It gives you the tools and inspiration you need to celebrate, mark and appreciate each month of the year in your own particular way. Reconnect with the seasons in Britain and Ireland with this month-by-month guide to the world around us – including key dates, tide tables and garden tasks; constellations and moon phases; sunrises, folk songs, seasonal recipes plus a ‘bun of the month’; and – because 2023 will be a good year for planet spotting – the solar system and the zodiac.

Taking in the sea breeze and feeling the strong rhythm of the sea makes us wonder why we don't do these things more often. There are also features on each month's unique nature, with this instalment following the swirling micro world of the garden pond through the year. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. I only have a PDF of ‘the almanac - a seasonal guide to 2023’ on loan from Netgalley, and it only lasts for a couple of months, so I may splash out for a copy. Lia Leendertz has produced another superb gem of a book in “THE ALMANAC” - A seasonal guide to 2023. This is such a brilliant book, it has everything you could possibly want to know about the different months.

Having adopted our first dog over 4 years ago, I found myself starting to appreciate how our local area changes over the year in terms of the natural world on our daily dog walks. From best gardening times, celestial events, tidal timetables - it's full of fascinating little tips and insights and I'm already looking forward to opening it at the start of each month. It includes key dates, tide tables and garden tasks; constellations and moon phases; sunrises, folk songs, seasonal recipes plus a ‘bun of the month’; and – because 2023 will be a good year for planet spotting – the solar system and the zodiac. Then I discovered Lia Leendertz and her 'seasonal guide' Almanacs published in Great Britain every year which make it a breeze!

Hotjar sets this cookie to know whether a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's daily session limit. Each entry starts with a list of celebrations and holidays and has a description of the month and what to look out for in nature, beautifully written, full of wisdom and hope by Lia Leendertz. For each month there is a tide timetable for Dover, phases of the moon, a few seasonal recipes, information on the respective Zodiac sign, what you can see In the natural world and what needs to be done in the garden. It is hard not to resent this in the moment that it happens, and in the following days as we wrestle with this new dose of darkness just when we need it least.

Each month covers topics such as moon phases, sea temperatures, sunset and sunrise times and nature. But I've seen enough to know I'll be revisiting it throughout the year, because that is the whole point of the book - it's an almanac.Divided into the 12 months, a set of tables each month gives it the feel and weight of a traditional almanac, providing practical information that gives access to the outdoors and the seasons, perfect for expeditions, meteor-spotting nights and beach holidays. This is a book with which to explore so much, with its section for each month, and I was pleased to have the opportunity to read and review it. The independent-minded quarterly magazine that combines good looks, good writing and a personal approach. A little peek here and there led me to reading the book fully but I’ll still be reading it each month, as it’s honestly such an adorable book.
