There’s zero follow-up, which is fine if they’re not important to the story, but if they’re not important about the story why focus on them for the first 50-55% of the book? However being in 1666 the Black Death plagued the city of Eyam and forced the people into quarantine, meaning RT was forced into life without his fiancé.
at about 51% the story very suddenly changes pace and abandons almost all of the characters from the first half of the book which was pretty off putting. I stumbled across the author’s TikTok and saw some of her videos promoting this book and just had to read it. Whilst this presents a very welcome opportunity for them to get out of Morganville and away from the nasty Morley Vampire it also comes with the unexpected downside of Oliver accompanying them as chaperone. I also appreciated that the FMC isn’t super angsty in second-guessing her decisions - I like an FMC who evaluates the options, makes a decision, and is more or less at peace with it - none of that wishy-washy agonizing over her own choice.
