About this deal

There’s real friendship there, even if Kim is not the first one to show it, and the way this is expressed in the book makes you feel a real part of the team – of the family – as you embark on each new thrilling instalment. It’s worth more than the Audible credit I give up to let Jan Cramer tell me the story in her most talented way.

Faced with hundreds of potential leads and a bereaved sister who is refusing to talk, can Kim get inside the mind of a killer and stop another murder before it’s too late?Just as Kim feels she’s making progress, a deadly threat is made to her own life by a dangerous psychopath from her past.

I love this team, their a great mixture of characters, and I like that we get to see some more of the personal side of their lives now too. While many other long running series lose their impact this series still holds my full attention and goes from strength to strength. Detective Kim Stone’s instincts tell her something isn’t right—but it’s not her investigation, and her temporary replacement is too busy waiting for the next big case to be asking the right questions. For Detective Kim Stone every detail of the scene mirrors her own terrifying experience with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block thirty years ago. Sending one of her own undercover into Unity Farm is high risk but it’s Kim’s only hope if she is to catch a killer – someone Kim is convinced the victims knew and trusted.

Beneath the retreat’s cosy façade, Kim and her team uncover a sinister community preying on the emotionally vulnerable. I was so glad that the team has got back together and like the banter between the team and that slowly Kim is getting back to her old self again. A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.

Although Kim's social skills are lacking, her heart is in the right place, and her detective skills outstanding . When a local drug addict is found murdered with an identical wound, Kim knows instinctively that she is dealing with the same killer. Then the body of a woman is found dead in suspicious circumstances and Kim makes a disturbing link between the victims and Russells Hall Hospital. Her report card invariably read “Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people’s”. In the darkness of a cold December morning, Detective Kim Stone steps through the doors of Halesowen Police Station. She is supposed to be taking things easy and slowly transitioning back to work, but Kim does not like to do anything easy.

Regardless of how good or bad the storyline is why on earth do you insist on employing this narrator ? With a touch of gaslighting, a huge amount of catfishing and an unhealthy dose of obsession, prejudice and murder, it’s a sure fire, action filled investigation, that leads to the high stakes, jeopardy laden conclusion of the case, just the way we like it. The murder of a young prostitute and a baby found abandoned on the same winter night signals the start of a disturbing investigation for Detective Kim Stone – one which brings her face to face with someone from her own horrific childhood. So I learned Spanish (I actually have a degree in Spanish philology), went to study in Madrid, Spain when I was 20. Kim is haunted but resilient, especially when the future of her team is threatened by the incompetence of the DI supposedly holding it all together in her absence. The BIGGEST thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC and of course to the fantastic Angela Marsons for once again letting me sit with Kim Stone for a couple of hours in peace and solitude! With the investigation quickly gathering momentum, Kim finds herself exposed to great danger and in the sights of a lethal individual undertaking their own twisted experiment.
