About this deal

Sensibly - at least in my personal view - Kat opted for the more traditional numbering in the Major Arcana, with Justice as eight, and Strength as eleven. Nearly all of the cards are exact reprints of the original deck, although a few missing cards from the original pack have been redrawn in similar style. I knew that cards were composites, collages, but when riffling through them I soon forgot, as the elements naturally flowed into one another without abrupt edges, colour or lighting changes. And while that speaks positively of the deck’s versatility, function, and imagery, it also shows it’s not one of my favorites. A couple of weeks ago, I had family in town, and my mother and I went to see Cyrano de Bergerac at the Metropolitan Opera.

Although the ability to communicate with animals is not literally traditional to the Magician in tarot, I feel that it is a powerful and appropriate metaphor for the meaning of the card. Looking through the deck, I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised by how faithful it is to traditional Tarot imagery.

The card meanings are most detailed for the major arcana – there is a large colour image of the card, keywords, the associated planet or sign, a description, upright and reversed meanings, and a small reversed image. For collectors, there are far prettier gilded decks out there and notwithstanding the shiny, I don’t see how having this particular deck would add to a collection. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. The deck is completely illustrated with digital collage that uses elements from renaissance masterpieces.

One of my favourites was the Page of Swords – he looks like he is mere seconds away from swinging that sword with a flourish. In addition, it seems that there was also concerted effort by various people who had found her site and deck and thought it should be published to strive to get US Games to have a look at this wonderful rendition. A gilded edge tarot deck based on the language of color, the tree of life, and the tradition of the Golden Dawn. The minor arcana meanings are sparser and has just the title and upright and reversed meanings, accompanied by a smaller card image. The cloth is really too small to be of any use with these cards, but it’s found a place on my Tarot altar*, and for that I’m glad it was included with the deck. The one downside to this deck is a perpetual problem with art decks, collage decks, and any deck that relies too much on digital image manipulation.

The beauty of the cards is enhanced with gold foil, adding a sense of magic to these astonishing images. but from here, allow me to quote Kat herself as she explained it on Aeclectic Tarot Forum: ‘I didn’t know that my deck was being printed in China until my own copy (finally) arrived.

From the moment that I started hearing about this deck, I knew that I wanted to have it in my hands! The cards are generally worked in neutral tones–a lot of beige and brown–but occasional spots of red, blue, and gold really light up the deck as a whole. A member of the ATN recommended it a while back but because I’m not too familiar with TdM decks, I’ve been afraid of getting it. The resulting card images are very similar to the Rider-Waite-Smith images in terms of symbolism and action.
