Honestly, the shot composition in Ghost in the Shell is far superior than a lot of anime films made today, and this new release really lets that shine. Granted, the hazy, soft-focus photography keeps the visuals on the softer side of things, but comparatively, the 2160p video is sharper and better-looking than previous releases. Celebrated as having inspired the Wachowskis when they came up with The Matrix, and even James Cameron when he made Avatar, the original anime masterpiece Ghost in the Shell is up there with Akira as an all-time classic. Over the course of the film there are various sequences where environmental sounds, music cues and discrete objects are mixed to differing locations in the sound field, adding a head turning element to the viewing experience.
