A tower fan can be more useful than a pedestal fan if you're planning on using it regularly as it will fit into a corner of a room without taking up much space and with a small footprint. Unlike traditional blade fans, the dust has less places to gather; therefore, less dust is blown out into the room. For reference, 30 dB is considered equivalent to the sound of whispering, whilst 10 dB is considered similar to the sound of breathing.

When it first arrived, we found it a bit fiddly having to screw the base onto the fan, but our criticism stopped there. Although it's plastic, the black design looks quite modern and stylish, so we definitely recommend this for our bargain-hunters out there.

Another is to place a fan with its back to an open window to draw in cool air and a second fan facing another window to blow the warmer air out. Some bladeless fans go one step further than just having speed settings and offer a choice of modes to choose from too.

There's something quite special about this nifty fan, it's unlike any other as it features LED lighting in the centre, creating a calming atmospheric glow. It comes with 5 quiet control speeds, an auto shut-off timer (that you can set for 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours) and remote control. Where the data is available, look for a fan with a higher airflow than 150m³ per hour as a measure of its cooling power. One thing to bear in mind is that a CR2025 battery needs to be purchased separately for the remote, as one doesn’t come supplied.
