The attractive design for our clothes airers maximises the space in your home – whether it’s a traditional country house or a modern city centre flat. From ropes, pulleys, cast iron and wooden slats, we’ve taken great care sourcing materials, so they’re built to last! The cleat is a small retaining hook used to secure the rope of the pulley airer to the wall and hold it securely in place. Our Traditional Indoor Clothes Air is an environmentally friendly alternative to using your tumble drier saving you money and helping reduce your household carbon footprint at the same time. Our wooden laths come from well managed sustainable redwood pine forests who employ the principle of every tree which is cut down at least one new one is grown to replace it. Mould can form on your clothes airer laths if the airer is in a cool room and does not benefit from warm air or/and the wooden laths are not allowed to dry out between loads. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. This is a tough rope and is usually more at home on sail yacht but we find is absolutely perfect for our airers as well as giving that traditional look. By using the naturally warm rising air which occurs in any home, the Kitchen Maids will dry a whole load of washing in around 2-4 hours. Similar to the Victorian hanging clothes airers, our designs are ceiling mounted and therefore use the natural rising warm air in your home. To avoid this occurring time must be given between loads for the wood to completely dry out, ideally in a warm environment.
Similar drying cabinets exist today, powered by electricity, but are intended for delicate clothing unsuitable for a powered clothes dryer, rather than for general drying.
The airer consists of a rack with several horizontal wooden rails or laths, suspended in two mounts or rack ends which were originally cast iron, but may be other metals or alloys today. So you are not only saving money this natural way but you’re reducing the amount of energy you use when drying clothes – good news for the environment.
