About this deal

You can also get your questions answered in person at one of our regular, free information briefings or by contacting our membership team. The books will be matched perfectly to the Little Wandle progression and will support all the Letters and Sounds phases. Featuring an exciting mix of stories and non-fiction to foster a love of reading in all children, matched to the Little Wandle progression.

These three parts of the programme work together to provide you with everything you need to prepare your children for phonics teaching in Reception. Every adult at Wooburn Green is trained to deliver Little Wandle phonics and reading to ensure that phonics and reading are delivered in the same way in every year group and by every adult.Apply - The children will have a go at reading or writing sentences of words that involve the new sound/word they have just learned. Each class in KS2 has a class reading book which allows teachers share their own love of reading with their pupils. Revisit and review – Go through flashcards or allow the children to play a quickfire game to practise something they have learned before and help build their confidence. As reading and spelling are reversible processes, and because we teach spelling alongside reading, children will learn to spell words with these suffixes too. The resources on this page will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters.

You can use these with your child at home to help them with their pronunciation of phonemes and recognition of corresponding graphemes. Little Wandle is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme, which provides high quality planning and resources for the teaching staff. By bidding on, or purchasing this item, you are agreeing to us sharing your name and address details with that 3rd party supplier to allow us to fulfil our contractual obligations to you. The SEND Programme isn’t additional practice for those children who are falling slightly behind their peers. This involves group and 1:1 sessions to close the gaps in their grapheme knowledge and support them in meeting the expected standard for their year group. Unfortunately we do not have capacity to offer 1:1 briefings with individual schools and our information briefings are not recorded. The Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme begins in the earliest years with the Foundations for Phonics programme, which we deliver to our Pre-School children. Introduction and engagement - The teacher will explain to the children what they will be learning today and get them enthusiastic and motivated for the session.

In the meantime, reading a variety of other books is widening his exposure to new words so that can only be a good thing I guess! It provides pathways for pupils who may need very specific adaptations to the teaching steps because they have complex needs, and has been developed with the advice from Special schools across the country. We encourage reading for pleasure through children having a choice of challenging and enriching texts as well as building in time for children to read independently and as part of a whole class. This is a much faster paced and age appropriate version of the Little Wandle scheme which enables children to access age appropriate reading and therefore the full curriculum much more rapidly, and also prepares them for the KS3 curriculum when they move onto secondary school.

Although it is ideal to start our programme at the beginning of the academic year, you can start at any point. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children. We have integrated Phase 6 throughout much of the programme as children need to be able to read words in the past and progressive tenses and with the suffixes in Phase 6 so that they can read fully decodable books that have a normal syntax and are not constrained by a restriction on verb tenses. Keep-up lessons match the structure of class teaching, and use the same procedures, resources and mantras, but in smaller steps with more repetition, so that every child secures their learning. Schools across the country start teaching phonics in this way every year and find it really helps children settle in.
