About this deal

Willie Beach finds himself living with Tom, a man in his sixties, a widower who has lived alone for a long time, but who fits the bill for the kind of person Willie’s mother has requested her son be put with.

The hard part of the story begins when the mentally unstable mother in London claims her child back. In chapter one of Goodnight Mr Tom, we see what his kitchen is like - it is a simple room, with few modern appliances. William regains consciousness to find himself in the cupboard under the stairs, stripped down to his underwear, with his ankle twisted. Having very little recollection of ever reading this when I was younger, I relished at the thought of reading this out loud to our kids. However, I would go the city without question, because if the countryside is made up of the gobshites from this novel, I would happily face death in the city. It was while performing at Birmingham Repertory Theatre that I received a telegram from my literary agent telling me it had been accepted for publication. Many years ago, I was daydreaming in a launderette when I saw an image in my head of a small boy standing in a graveyard.

Reading Goodnight Mister Tom was very emotional also seeing the film drew me more closer to the feeling which the author must of put into the book I loved it and the description is magnificent really helpful for English. I would just recommend you to pick up this book and feel all there’s the feel about a very much neglected/abandoned child, the child healing slowly, the way a community helps in the healing process as and when the child facing PTSD effects. By the time MICHELLE MAGORIAN was eleven she had decided that the perfect life would be to spend half the year acting and the other half writing. They need to about the need for the product and how much better a motor can make the experience for the user.

This led me to explore American children’s books, American Art, popular American music, traditional American stencilling, and through two chance encounters in a library in Connecticut and in a canteen in the British Library in London I was able to find out what it was like to be in Junior High in the 1940’s.

He seems fearful and withdrawn, without any joy or trust in people, which softens his heart and the love and kindness he extends to Willie end up changing both of their outlooks on the world. I think this book is very emotional and you can very easily feel empathetic towards the young boy in the story who has been evacuated to the country. Goodnight Mr Tom by the English author Michelle Magorian is a popular story when learning about WWII.
