About this deal

Writing for Rolling Stone in August 1972, Stephen Holden said, "I've always liked Jackie DeShannon's singing — a gently throat-catching but never maudlin style — though on record after record her talent seemed too often to be thrown away on inferior songs with shlock arrangements.

Following their very public break-up, Ciara's album release was further postponed to 2015, [6] and during this time the singer "quietly" recorded new music, while concentrating on motherhood. Idolator's Christina Lee echoed the same sentiment, stating: "Instead of expanding on how her life has changed, though, Jackie finds Ciara settling into her comfort zone. Spotlighting her current chart hit "Vanilla Olay," she also offers strong cuts on John Prine's "Paradise," Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," and Steve Goodman's "Would You Like to Learn to Dance. Following her departure from her previous record label, Ciara signed a new deal with Epic Records, and released her self-titled fifth studio album in July 2013. Records that aren't in picture sleeves will either be in a company sleeve or a generic plain sleeve. The singer also commented about the difference between Jackie and her other albums, stating: "I am so much more expressive and confident than I have ever been in my life. Then in March 2015, Ciara announced that she would release Jackie in May 2015 and that she planned on touring the US later in the year. Following the announcement that "Dance like We're Making Love" would serve as the album's second single, "Give Me Love" was given an official US urban contemporary impact date of June 9, 2015.

The dance-pop "One Woman Army", [23] a song written as the title track to the scrapped project of the same name, [22] has "fizzy synths and club sirens" [24] and robo-military march. There's also the pretty boy wall poster fodder ( Leif Garrett and John Travolta), bubblegum ( Chicory Tip), early disco, soul and, in the last track of the third CD, a snatch of new wave and a hint of the decade to come with The Boomtown Rats. Recording and production [ edit ] The Record Plant (Hollywood, California) was one of the studios where the album was recorded. These songs are good fun, though they aren’t as revelatory or forward-thinking as ‘Body Party’ or the rest of 2013's Ciara, the best album she's made. There is a particularly harrowing piece of programming on Disc One with Billy Don't Be a Hero followed by Seasons in the Sun, only the brave can endure without a lump in the throat and something unexpecetedly aggravating the tear ducts. While finding the fashionable cover songs relatively inessential, he believed DeShannon was compelled to sing better on the more rhythmic productions and that her own written songs remain the LP's essential performances. It was rumoured that Luke produced two songs, "Dance like We're Making Love" and "Give Me Love," [4] which was later confirmed.

At the end of the day genres and labels are insignificant when it comes to a man like Jackie Wilson. In a less enthusiastic review, Andy Kellman of AllMusic wrote that "[t]he album contains fewer highlights than any previous Ciara album," concluding that "the results are mixed. That's How I'm Feelin '" contains a sample from "Jive Rhythm Trx – 122 BPM", as written by Larry Linn and performed by Willedson Dodgers. During the recording of the album, Ciara worked with numerous long time collaborators including Harmony "H-Money" Samuels and Polow da Don, as well as less frequent collaborators such as Dr.In an accompanying essay, Gavin Edwards said Atlantic's repeated attempt to "take an accomplished pop chanteuse and let her make a lush Southern soul album" may not have had the commercial impact of Dusty in Memphis, "but it was almost as stunning. Note: Our refurbished grades - Pristine, Very Good and Good - are solely based on the cosmetic condition of the phone. Lullaby" contains elements of " Love, Need and Want You" written by Kenneth Gamble and Bunny Sigler and contains samples and portions of " Dilemma" written by Cornell Haynes Jr. Despite a couple of humdrum country soul songs on the first side", Christgau highlighted DeShannon's original compositions – "Vanilla O'Lay" and "Anna Karina" – as well as her cover of the 1971 Alice Stuart song "Full Time Woman". On January 14, 2015, Ciara announced the title of her album would be "Jackie" via her official Twitter account.
