I’ve been urged to give the Japanese Harmony a chance but I enjoy the Hibiki 12 so much that I don’t want to feel the disappointment if I don’t like it as much. Sadly, following the massive surge in popularity of Japanese whisky in the 2010s, this expression was discontinued by Suntory in 2015. The malts are from Suntory owned Hakushu and Yamazaki distilleries, with some aged grain from Chita. Bourbons and ryes will all be too potent to compare well, but Angel’s Envy is light (and port finished), so that’s probably closest among bourbons. That this whisky holds up so well with so much water and ice speaks to how well it has been crafted.
