Do not put out additional waste or recycling next to your bin as this is not permitted and will not be uplifted. When you register for the Garden Waste Collection Service, Somerset Council will confirm the start date of the service. Where a collection is missed for reasons within the control of Somerset Council or its contractor, and Somerset Council is made aware of the missed collection either by you within 5 working days of the scheduled collection or by the contractor Somerset Council will arrange a new collection to take place within 2 working days of the missed collection. The York Region and Toronto Green Bin programs allow residents to use regular plastic grocery sacks as liner bags. All of our big green recycling bins are manufactured in Europe by compact injection moulding high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and are therefore able to withstand an impressive amount of ‘wear and tear’.

Please note we only accept limited quantities of soil at the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). You’re allowed up to four blue bins for mixed recycling, and four green bins for food and garden waste.This could be using the blue or brown collection services, or by using local Recycling centres and points. Somerset Council will not empty bins (or bags) where staff reasonably consider there is a risk of personal injury or damage to the bin, the collection vehicle, or other property for any reason including, for example, excess weight (Over 40kg in weight) or frozen contents.

The householder must reduce the weight of the contents or otherwise remove the risk before the bin (or bags) will be emptied at the next scheduled collection. By subscribing to the Garden Waste Collection Service you agree to be bound by the terms set out here. If you do not use all the kerbside recycling services including the weekly food waste service we will not consider your larger green bin application. If the bin that has been provided to you is lost, stolen or damaged you may be charged the cost of replacement.Durham Region, Ontario's Green Bin program initially began with Scugog, Uxbridge, Brock and Clarington, but has since been expanded to all municipalities in the Region since 2006. Hamilton, Ontario had originally implemented its "Green Bin" program to houses in 2006 and is the first city to recently spread the project to apartment buildings and complexes to reduce waste by 35% to ease the garbage in Hamilton's only operational landfill.
