I mostly laughed my way through, and well, it did improve at the very end and that’s why it’s not a flat out 1 star.

at the beginning…there’s a note from the author and she was saying how it took her so long to finish this book. I’ve been missing the bite that darker enemies to lovers romances like this have, and I might need to start reading more of it again.

A haunted castle armed with insults as cannons; two staggering, hate-filled eyes as guards; and a lonely king who never abandoned his throne for fear it would collapse. now on to the characters, they were interesting but didn't keep me on my toes or made me love them as a book should.

I’m sorta not feeling anyone else’s story intriguing in this book and I didn’t really like them much. Reed was the beneficiary of a lot of Nash’s good deeds and it allowed him to grow up without some pretty hefty burdens. I'll admit the beginning of the book had a lot of background/foundational information that kept me re-reading a few pages to make sure I understood the characterizations and their assigned roles, but once that was accomplished, I found myself drawn in by the author's beautiful writing, and the characters of Nash and Emery--loved them. Umm…” She upped her smile until she resembled Jack Nicholson’s Joker and snagged a seat on the chair in front of my desk. I know when Nash describes Emery as a "nut case" it was more of a hehe haha she is so endearing cause she's crazy<3 but like genuinely.guys it was so bad that when characters were having conversations…i’d forget what the conversation was about because there would be so much shit in between the actual dialogue if that makes any sense. What a way to celebrate December, throw in a new to me author, an easy 5 star read, and characters that I loved equally, this book was the perfect reading material for a shitty cold rainy day! the nail in the coffin was when she let him stick a CABINET KNOB up her ass the first time they have sex after they reunite omg.

all of that was a lot, but if you made it this far…i will be telling you guys the very few things i liked. Emery and Nash together and separate, Emery’s dad, her mom, the business deals, and the SEC investigations to name a few. there were definitely some swoon worthy moments…but this romance book had absolutely no business being 700 pages. I enjoyed watching Emery and Nash's relationship develop but wish we'd seen more of them as a couple, instead of the small snippets that we get in the epilogue.this book brought out a side of me that doesn’t show a lot because my average rating for the books i read is around 4.
