We're sorry you were disappointed with Couture as what you've described is far from typical, so we're happy to look into this further for you. It has completely changed the way I decorate cakes and looking back at old photos I am convinced my cakes now have a better finish with cleaner edges and smoother surfaces.

The main issue I had was getting it to firm up in any way - once applied over cold butter cream it got too sticky to work with so I tried again once the buttercream was up to room temp (I know some sugarpaste isn't as good as Massa Ticino at handling changes in temperature) and had to apply a ton of cornflour just to be able to use a paddle on it.Like all fondant icings and sugarpastes, lightly dust your work surface with icing sugar before rolling out to cover your cake. The paste is produced using ultra fine sugar, as such this paste can be quite firm, particularly in colder months - If it is too difficult to knead at first it can be popped into the microwave for 10 seconds to soften.

It comes ready to roll for maximum convenience, has a vibrant and smooth white finish, and is suitable for use by both professional bakers and cake decorators, and at home. Couture is ideal for the latest cake design trends - it will not over-stretch, droop or tear on deeper and larger cakes and multi-tiered cakes. As a home hobby baker, I get asked to do friends cakes often - for my first wedding cake I decided the normal supermarket sugar paste wasn't good enough. I find Renshaw too flexible in that I get holes regularly in larger rolled out sections so I thought I'd go for Couture after reading the reviews. The elasticity of this paste makes it ideal for taller or more unusually shaped cakes and can be rolled out extra thin for good coverage, without tearing or cracking.

PREPARATION - it is important to knead well before use to activate the gums for best performance - the ultra-fine icing sugar creates a 'dense' paste which, in cooler weather, may feel difficult to knead at first so if you find it a bit hard work you can warm slightly in a microwave (blitz for 10 seconds) prior to kneading.

The the icing survived perfectly, after a few hours sitting out of the fridge in the box, any condensation was gone and the cake looked perfect. This is THE BEST sugarpaste ever to work with, I usually dread covering my cakes because of the usual tearing/cracking at the edges etc. Couture doesn't crack or craze (especially around corners) or form elephant skin if prepared correctly . I did need a lot of the colouring because it was a purply-black rather than a true black, but I didn't have any problems and this was definitely the best looking cake covering I've ever done. Made using luxury ingredients to help create the smoothest fondant yet for a flawlessly satin smooth icing that dries to an almost porcelain-like, silky finish.Couture is the perfect sugarpaste for wedding and high-end celebration cakes, where quality of finish means everything. In the past, I've always bought a different brand and I only bought this sugarpaste because I wasn't able to get my usual brand. It has a smooth, porcelain-like finish enabling the achievement of sharp edges, ideal for even finishing on taller cake tiers. Often imitated but never bettered - this is the sugar paste that allows you to decorate your cakes with real finesse and panache.
