Favorite quote: "I want to set the example my mother set for me: a strong female role model, who faces challenges, takes risks, and conquers fears. I love all the questions this brings to mind for me about cultural and environmental impact of scientific exploration, and the funding of scientific exploration, and the role of the entertainment industry in funding and in raising awareness. While their moves and enthusiasm have remained largely the same, the cheerleaders' hairstyles, outfits and make-up are true relics of the era, showing just how much fashion has changed over the decades. I am referring here to the stereotypical male perspective, as I believe gender to be more of a spectrum. The book itself even ends with a chapter of how she tries to juggle the life of a working mother - even if her work brings her away from her children much more so than most.

We may not discover a new species of lemur but through our own curiosity we can see our daily lives from other more appealing, adventurous perspectives. But what is important is that they'll learn how important it is to do something you love, how hard work can help to get you there, and finally, how important it is to be yourself. Now, more than ever, it's important to make sure that our children will still have wild places to see - and maybe, occasionally, a new species to discover!

She becomes an NFL cheerleader (which will always be brought up in regards to her career) and later goes on to get an anthropology degree, explore across the world, become a National Geographic host, and to earn her Ph. Pink Boots and a Machete is an empowering autobiography detailing how one humble, tree-climbing, bug-collecting tomboy evolved into one of the most recognizable primatologists and television adventurers on the planet.Mireya describes extraordinarily well how immensely thrilling and powerfully rewarding capturing the world's smallest primate a new species of mouse lemur was. You will find yourself hard pressed to remember this is an autobiography and not an adventure novel. These bees are attracted to salt in human sweat, and although their sting is almost painless, their constant presence is a total pain in the butt. Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centers that host Etsy. Inside the Giggs family feud: Ryan tore his bloodline apart with his affair with brother Rhodri's wife.

She has -- unsurprisingly -- some really interesting stories to tell, and although the writing doesn't always do those stories justice, it's hard not to want to read more. Deep in the heart of darkness in the lush rain forest of the Congo, the gorillas were dozing under the rays of morning sun that pierced the dense vegetation, exuding their infectious, albeit misleading, aura of calm. How Princess of Wales' loyal PA and stylist Natasha Archer who's been on hand during her hospital stay has. Her passion for the sciences and her adventurous spirit are deeply inspiring and incredibly invigorating.I was happily surprised how the book read like I was hearing a story from a friend, rather than trudging through stiff, stilted scientific jargon. This book is very much one that should be read by young girls and women who might aspire to become scientists, but the life lesson of PINK BOOTS is very clear as well: you can achieve whatever you set out to do. Her red lipstick matches her ensemble, and her hair is styled in a voluminous pouf on top of her head. One is that when an encounter at the fax machine leads to the self realization that an office job is not for you, ACT ON IT.

In a series of short chapters, she relives each exhilarating event with uncanny charm and self-deprecating humour. Her descriptions of the locations she has visited are so well written that you will feel as if you are actually there standing with her. I do not think I would have made it past the first 20 pages if this book wasn't for the zoo book club. Finally, although I noticed some reviews criticizing Mireya's mentions of her cheerleading past and her "girly" traits, I found it refreshing: I am tired of women having to pick between a tough personality or a "girly" one, when if we want we can just be both.

I was surprised to find that the book really isn't about her metaphorical 'journey' from cheerleader to National Geographic explorer. Products that contain small parts may pose a choking hazard and should not be used by children under 3.
