About this deal

at the wide end like everyone had hoped for, but it does have other useful features and capabilities. Ability to do handheld shots at 1/2 s and 100mm (200mm) equivalent (haven't tried slower) negate my need to carry a tripod or monopod.

Zuiko 12-100mm F4 provides such a versatile range in such a well-built package that I really did feel ready for anything.I've kept it on my lap while sea kayaking, on my shoulder when snowboarding, always carrying it when I'm going to Lapland for cross country overnight ski trips, or sailing, hiking, etc. So while there were times on this trip where I stopped the lens down, it was usually to get more depth of field, not to increase sharpness. I will have to say this right up front that the Olympus 12-100mm f/4 Dual IS is the best super zoom I’ve ever used.

And since the 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO combined with my OMD E-M1 Mark II are both weather sealed I NEVER had to worry about my gear in those situations. It is also worth noting that the Olympus 12-100mm costs significantly more than the Panasonic 12-60mm. An extremely fast and high precision AF system allows you to capture still or moving subjects with the highest clarity and definition. On a smaller camera like the E-M5 or E-M10 it’s going to be really front heavy, but the E-M5 combined with a battery grip is a perfect match.

Mounted on an OM-D E-M1 Mark II, it seemed to me to fit the bill of a reasonably sized solution for just about everything I'd want to photograph. And it is the lens that is more than adequate for most usual shooting circumstances, unless you shoot often in extremely low light conditions of course. Keeping up with them and taking sharp candids near and far become possible when this lens is mounted. Isn't criticising an f/4 lens for not being fast enough a bit like criticising a screwdriver for not being a wrench. So you seems to be very proud of your discovery that 12mm/f2, 16mm/f2, 24mm/f2 are different lenses.

After all, F11 on Micro Four Thirds is F22 equivalent for full-frame systems, so if you're stopping down to the same aperture you would on 35mm to get better sunstars, your sharpness will drop off a cliff. All content, design, and layout are Copyright © 1998–2024 Digital Photography Review All Rights Reserved.I do, mostly nature photography, sothis lens and my Pana-Leica 8-18, are all I need, especially with incredible IBIS.

I have not done a side by side comparison between the 12-100mm and 12-40mm, but from my extensive shooting experience and memory using both lenses, I did feel that the newer 12-100mm F4 Pro lens is slightly sharper, but not by a significant margin. The image stabilization is NOT a replacement for tripod, and I should have emphasized that I do not encourage hand-held shooting at dangerously slow shutter speeds. We also offer product videos, reviews and image samples to help you to choose which camera or lens is right for you.And as a combo, combined with a variable ND filter/polariser, the creative opportunities were phenomenal. In my use the long focal length range, reasonable travel weight, dependability, and picture quality are just really nice.
