About this deal

With his meal scattered across the floor, the dog was free to eat his meal just as quickly as before – leaving the owner to clean up any pieces that he missed. Happy dogs without a doubt, Nero maybe not so much but with such an intelligent dog we are pleased he at least agreed to take part and help review the slow feeders. However, right now, I see no good reason to choose a ceramic slow feeder over our other recommendations.

Nero’s testing may not be quite as dainty as Maya’s but we all have different ways of approaching meal time. The Dogit Go Slow Bowl comes in a single design, available in four different sizes ranging from extra small to large.

Reviewing this guide and our illustration below will help you determine how to measure your pet, especially if you are new pet parent or have never dressed your pampered doggy up before. Maya being a Galgo has a long pointed nose so this design wasn’t difficult at all for her to access the food and she soon worked out that by guiding it to the middle she could easily enjoy her meal without too much of a puzzle to solve. The best-performing ceramic slow feeder, the Magisso Happy Pet Project Ceramic Bowl, was unsuited for wider snouts and flat faces. All five of these bowls have been put through their paces, received intriguing looks, lots of smelling, prodding, licking and chewing. The windmill shaped insert fits into your regular dog bowl (4½–7in) to slow down your pooch’s eating and improve digestion.

Two different sizes of kibble were used during testing – one for small dogs and the other for medium to large. To find the number one slow-feed bowl, we used the following tests: How much time did the slow feeder add to feeding time? You see, this slow-feed dog bowl is available in four different sizes, but only the purple model was appropriate to our flat-faced tester. From a human perspective (yes we are the ones having to do the washing up, boo hoo), this bowl is more fiddly to clean than a standard round bowl. She loves belly rubs, chasing the four wheeler and tries to devour Fiona (our next tester) whenever she gets a chance. Gau Gau, bless him with his adorable frown lines looked rather perplexed at first and admittedly we felt a bit cruel as he attempted to eat his food.

The bowl promotes healthy slow eating, helping prevent, obesity, bloat, regurgitation and overeating. All did not end well for the Smarter Paws Slow Feeding bowl but Nero is one of a kind so don’t let this put you off the bowl.

After all, if your dog eats just as quickly from a slow-feed bowl, then why would you pay extra for a specialized bowl?
