After years of experimentation he achieved a breakthrough that revolutionised the manufacture of rum and eventually transformed it from a local Caribbean beverage into an internationally consumed spirit. Adjoining the main building are the ageing rooms and the large “pool” where they produce the pure sugar cane vinegar which, added at the fermentation stage, gives Hampden rum its unique and unmistakable aromatic bouquet. The nose is voluptuous and intense, with notes of caramelised apple and sweet spices mixed with a delicate touch of smokiness. Tropical aging for eight years accentuates vibrant layers of banana, pineapple, and passion fruit, seamlessly balanced by toasted spices and a touch of funky oiliness. This Rum is the perfect all-rounder, a fantastic full-bodied sipping rum that also lends itself to bringing depth and complexity to mixed drinks.
