It was created by Augustus Bulleit, a bar owner from Louisville, Kentucky, who sold small batches of bourbon until his death in 1860.

A state-of-the-art Bulleit distillery was opened to visitors in 2019, offering tours and cocktail classes. First released in 2011 and an instant hit with lovers of this spicy style, Bulleit rye makes a mean Manhattan, but is equally pleasing enjoyed neat over ice.

He was inspired by his great, great grandfather, Augustus, a tavern keeper in Louisville Kentucky and a keen bourbon experimenter and enthusiast who wanted to create a Bourbon with a distinctive character. Inspired by my great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, who made his signature high-rye whiskey in the mid-1800s. I mainly drink islay's and bourbons so tried this for something different and I wasn't disappointed.
