Further information and for reference: I used a moss killer (bulk purchase form a popular auction web site) a week before the scarifier, cut the lawn short before and treated the grass with lawn feed (from the same place as the moss killer) and lawn seed (yep, same place) after scarification. Don't underestimate the effort involved - this machine is brilliant but you will remove a lot of material. However, be warned, there may be some baled patches once you go around your grass as it will pick up its fair share of dead grass (thatch) that you may not have realised would happen but this will row back. I have a bosch already purchased about 3 yrs ago but dont know the model i raked today and it looks like i just cut the grass the moss is still in there.Below I’ll be detailing all the features and functions of the Bosch AVR 1100, both good and not so good and then comparing to the Flymo so you understand exactly what you’re getting for your money. If you have a small lawn use a hand rake or other small cheap machine as these machines are used about twice a year, but anything larger then consider this as a life long purchase. They mention that it is great for clearing up leaves, it is very good at collecting all the debris, and it does a fantastic job of removing the moss and old clippings.Not only had the machine picked up all the leaves/debris from the garden but it had almost given it a new life. The lower the death wheel, the closer the blades get to the surface of the soil – the lowest setting being below the surface of the soil hence the furrows that it will leave. I knew I didn’t want a petrol model because of the maintenance of a petrol engine and they are usually much bigger and heavier too but they do have their place, just not in a smaller domestic garden. Jet Collect’ system – This is innovative from Bosch, the drum has profiled air inlets that helps to not only make the collection of thatch, moss or leaves more effective but also the addition air flow pressure helps to compact the debris into the drum preventing clogging and increasing the amount collected. All in all I think this is a very good product, it is very powerful and certainly does the job but you must read the instructions, understand what you want to achieve in your garden and be patient.

Type of blades/tines: The ALR 900 has 10 Double Steel Tines, while the AVR 1100 has 14 rotating BOR steel blades. We will exchange or refund within the first 30 days if a manufacturers fault is found with this product. A large 50-litre collection box lets you spend more time raking before you have to empty it, so you can finish the task in one go. My second run did not fill up the collection box too quick so it really depends on the state of the garden.Unless you want a serious workout from manual dethatching, I would highly recommend the Bosch AVR 1100. I've never heard of this product, although I have several other Bosch products, and have found them all to be well made and reliable. It's literally transformed our lawn, was looking tired n thought there was some thatch, wow what a transformation after just one use. Bosch have managed to mount the lever out of the way in the front but still allow for the height to be adjusted easily, very nice! well, yes I think it does for people with smaller lawns and limited space for storage with the ability to get the job done without emptying the collection box as often.
