The dates listed below have different categories as denoted by the letters in the brackets following each date. Steeped in the Old Testament, facing the impact of revivalism, Phillip Phillips seeks resolution for his own anguish. The Captains were selected, the heap was divided and the captains took their respective positions with their men to the right or left, as the case may be.

If you have seen the Chris Monger/ Hugh Grant Film, The Englishman who climbed a hill and came down a mountain, will know what I speak of!To cut short a very long story, we found the pit, a drift mine cut into the Garth mountain, hidden in brambles in a local woodland. Haunted by his father's action, steeped in memories and the words of the Old Testament, Phillip Phillips, seeks resolution to his anguish. The lenient verdict reflected the power of the mine owners – some of the jurors were Booker employees and they feared for their jobs. It had been very cold for several days, and when cold air goes down into a mine it absorbs more moisture. KlappentextThe House of Abraham Phillips is a fictitious interpretation of the 1875 Lan Mine disaster in Gwaelod y Garth, South Wales.

Phillips, Abraham (1849–1910)', People Australia, National Centre of Biography, Australian National University, https://peopleaustralia. The House of Abraham Phillips is a fictitious interpretation of one family caught up in the horror of a mining disaster. Born in South Wales in 1822 to John Phillips (known as Shon o’r Lan, a well-known Ivorite) and Deborah Thomas, Abraham was six years old when his family left rural Wales and moved to the rapidly industrialising valleys. We do not know how many were in the party moving with them, but a comparison of surnames from Cades Cove to the Clay County records shows many duplications.Born on May 22, 1943, Prestwich, United Kingdom, Philips has served as choreographer for many West End and Broadway musicals, films, as well as TV shows. We finished it the same day, for we put no floor in it and used split poles for seats, putting legs in the round side of the pole and turning the flat side up. I can still hear them tell about how dissatisfied and unhappy he was after that and that he always talked of going back to Tennessee but he died in a few years. The John Phillips family from Virginia had been there since the early 1820s and Charles Phillips and family from Monroe Co. Together, we walked the parks, left wing politics every step, cried into the Thames, queued for the Gods in just about every London theatre.

When Thomas William Booker, the local coal and iron master, promoted Abraham to Overman and Underground Agent, he and Eliza moved into Ty’n-y-Coed – a detached cottage in the valley close to the Lan mine. The well respected Overman, Abraham Phillips, is faced with a dilemma: it is nearly Christmas; the pit is in danger of closure if coal doesn’t come up.

Their eldest son Evan (1848-72) died aged 24, their youngest Elizabeth aged 23, and a daughter Deborah (1857) at just five months, her name passed on to the next daughter. It lists two horses, cattle, eleven sheep, pigs, three plows, three sets of plow gears, some carpenters tools and a wheat fan. The overman, Phillips, was highly respected, both by the officials of the colliery and the colliers themselves. My book, The House of Abraham Phillips, records a story of these people who lived in our cottage, this village, and who faced the ultimate loss in a pit disaster in 1875. While the facts around the disaster are taken from contemporary reports in the press and records in professional journals, the interaction within the family is pure fiction. We have no family records from this time period, but we do know the trip was a difficult one with rivers to cross and hills to climb. The earliest records were destroyed by rebels during the Civil War but an old plat book survived all the fires. there were often accidents and many became ill on the trail causing some families to drop out of a caravan until the sick became better or died. Then with a span of horses or a yoke of cattle hitched to a good sized ground slide with a box rudely constructed of clap-boards, we drove into the field to gather corn and haul to the crib or rail pen and throw down in a heap, ready for husking.
