About this deal

Thought I'd need the full 20db, but a 6-9 db boost in 2-3 of the mid bands is more than enough to bust through the mix. Built with rugged aluminum and featuring true bypass switching, the MXR Six Band EQ Pedal is a fine addition to any pedalboard. Apart from an amplifier, nothing gives guitar players a greater degree of control over tonality than an equalizer.

Whether you want to save a couple of bucks by performing a mod or upgrade yourself instead of paying a tech, or want to build your own piece of gear from scratch, I'm sure you will find something interesting here. The MXR Six Band EQ has been upgraded with noise-reduction circuitry, true bypass switching, brighter LEDs for increased visibility, and a lightweight aluminum housing. Unsurprisingly, EQ pedals like the 6BGE are a bit of a niche product, so they are neither numerous nor highly collectable.

The MXR Six Band EQ covers all the essential guitar frequencies and has been upgraded with noise-reduction circuitry, true bypass switching, brighter LEDs for increased visibility, and lightweight aluminium housing.

Even though Ed used the 6-band and Randy used the 10-band, Randy may have been more of an influence at purchase – I think I remember not being able to afford the 10-band. The MXR EQ offers 6 bands covering all the essential guitar and bass frequencies, with each slider ready to deliver 18 dB's of cut or boost. The Palmer lets you get full power tube saturation – then post EQ to power amps and multiple cabs like Ed did too. One popular method is to boost every frequency ever so slightly (push every slider up an equal amount) to get a strong boost for solos. The backlit faders are a real bonus too, especially when when I play under less-than-ideal stage lighting. The company also released a mains powered Ten Band Graphic Equalizer to give even greater control, as well as rack‑mounted EQs for the really committed. The Six Band EQ can create scooped-mid rhythm tones with massive low end, add natural sounding warmth to a quacky acoustic pickup, eliminate onstage feed-back, and much more. Please give us the reason for your assessment in the following text box and – if possible – your e-mail address for further questions.

It will also add natural-sounding warmth to a quacky acoustic pickup and instantly eliminate onstage feedback or boost your overall signal when using a massive chain of floor effects. Thought I remembered that from back in the day – the hissing, the feedback, the thinning out of tone. I am able to cleanly have that EQ on along with a Tube Screamer or DS1 on at the same time for roaring preamp distortion and gain coloration. After watching some rig rundown videos (Tom Bukovac), it became obvious that an eq pedal was what I was looking for. Having input and output gain settings like on the bigger brother (10 band model) would be nice, but then it probably wouldn’t cost half as much. We’re going to have to wait yet another week for the interview with Kevin Holbrook of YMI5150 guitars because we have yet another newsworthy event. The MXR Six Band EQ covers all the essential guitar frequencies and has been upgraded with noise-reduction circuitry, true bypass switching, brighter LEDs for increased visibility, and a lightweight aluminium housing. However you use it, the low-noise circuitry keeps your core tone intact, while six EQ sliders allow you to add or cut up to 18dB.

If you have an effects loop (or Palmer), try then removing the harshness of the added mids back down. To throw a wrench in your gears, the MXR 10 band is even more versatile than the GE-7, but runs on 18v. I'm bringing this up because with higher voltage ceiling one can get much bigger undistorted output voltage ----> with proper EQing (boosted high mids and treble) this makes MXR EQ an incredible booster pedal in front of the amp. I received the MXR alkalizer a few weeks ago, and I am extremely happy with this device are use this in conjunction with another pedal for harmonica playing. It helps me hear certain frequencies that otherwise I would have it more difficult time hearing one more pedal to go in daisy chain is complete for my needs so it's really nice to have that light turned down. Can’t remember exactly why I bought it (new), but had to be because of Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads, my two guit-wielding idols at the time. I love the blue color on the Dial says well when the lights are low produces a nice atmosphere kind of like looking at cop cars in the night time.
