This bottle has an agave worm in the main bottle and included is a minature bottle with lots of agave worms in it so if sharing shots everyone could have a worm. Containing the famous worm that inhabits the Agave plant, Monte Alban is a big and bold Mezcal with all the fire and brimstone one would expect.

DESCRIPTION: The Mezcal Monte Alban of the Sazerac Company is produced in the Oaxaca region and comes from a double distillation using an ancient process developed by the Aztecs in antiquity. Burnt oak and hydrogen peroxide are the main “notes” and the only effect from eating the worm I remember was a mild case of Bali belly. Odd to see an agave worm featured as an essential part of the experience… but it’s been there since forever.

On the bright side, I enjoyed it enough that I'll definitely be trying more mezcal, probably looking at the "Illegal reposado" mezcal next as a step up. The Monte Alban was the first Mezcal to be awarded an export contract and is probably one of the most authentic Mexican spirits.
