About this deal

Passionate I am of all things audio and I seek to sing its praises to the world, via the AudioKeyReviews. Warm fundamental range transition into the upper fundamentals; therefore warm, lush lower mids without becoming overly muddy or muffled sounding. Sturdily built, the walnut wood earcups, soft earpads, and spring steel headband give the headphones a classic look, and comfort whilst maintaining their robustness. Headband bracket made of metal; very unpleasantly microphonic and ringing when touched, which is a big factor of annoyance. There is a decent amount of details within the bass, though it can get a little muddled on busier tracks.

It’s an interesting and lightweight system that contrasts intriguingly with the usual expanding, telescopic headphone system. Editorial Note: Yes, we flaunt the song titles in quotations dictate, as we find our treatment— italicization—a good bit more, well, elegant. The 10-long cable is primarily for home use with a nylon threaded sheath as opposed to the rubber tubing finish of the shorter cable. One of my favorite tracks Árbakkinn from Olafur Arnalds’ Island Songs (Island Songs, Mercury (Universal France)) begins as Icelandic poet, Einar Georg Einarsson, recites one of his poems in his native language.Acoustic tracks such as that from Sungha Jung and Rodrigo y Gabriela sound wonderfully fun and lifelike. All the wood that is used in the headphones is strictly harvested from sources with a certificate of origin - mature trees that have reached the end of their life cycle.

Those featuring a captured spy in the chair, Gestapo villain in a long coat and a nasty facial scar wants facts, facts, facts! Home use is where they will be in their element, and I think, given the physical design, this is what Meze was going for anyway. They are my first hi end (ish) headphone so I don’t really have anything to compare them to, but I will say that yes the bass is substantial. The Treble is well extended with good overall details and a smoothed presentation, there was no harshness, and it has decent air and sparkle. I liked that they are dual entry cables (one each to the left and right earcups), as I feel this gives a better balance and overall aesthetic look. It is quite spacious, so you won’t have to worry about your headphones being squished, and you can easily fit both of your cables inside.

It’s nowhere close being neutral or analytical, focusing more on a huge dose of fun and being just easy to listen to. They are comprised entirely of walnut wood, zinc, ABS, silicone, and spring steel and finished with pleather and memory foam. It is worth mentioning that all the wood that we use in our headphones is strictly harvested from sources with a certificate of origin. So now you know the backstory of my relationship with Meze, let’s get on with this review of the 99 Classics. However, I found the Classics can be worn all day and require an occasional break to relieve hot ears. The 99 Classics are also a good deal lighter and for those with smaller heads/necks this could, indeed, be a determining factor. With a string of sensational reviews, the 99 Classics are amongst the best-sounding headphones in their class. When you pick them up for the first time, I bet you will be surprised at how little these headphones weigh. I took these with me on a trip to a cabin in the woods and they felt right at home with the warm, relaxed tones blending in with the cabin setting, I was so comfortable sitting on the couch forgetting about all the hustle and bustle of my normal work week and just focusing on my favorite tunes.

I actually really enjoy the treble on the 99 Classic for it’s laid back, relaxed tone that doesn’t stress the ears all the while delivering a detailed sound. It sound’s full and thick, but it lack’s a bit of this subsonic rumble, thanks to a slight recession in the sub-bass region. The walnut wood earcups, soft earpads, and the spring steel headband make the 99 Classics an heirloom rather than just another pair of quality headphones. A Swedish public limited company (publikt bankaktiebolag) registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office with organisation number: 556737-0431. You get what you pay for, and the Meze 99 Classics is a gorgeous pair of headphones with good sound to match. And their highs were also, relatively, extended and sweet, though, again, the 99 Classics were more transparent and thus able to uncover more detail. Side by side, the classics are definitely the more premium of the two, but both are beautiful sets of cans from an aesthetical standpoint.
