About this deal

I'm just trying to understand where this lens sits according to the other 25mm lenses in the system based on your testing. This is my favourite lens for shooting at higher frame rates then slowing it down in post-production. We can take the phrase undistorted view of the world quite literally, as the distortion levels measured are an extremely low -0.

maximum aperture that allows for shooting low-light scenes and offers additional depth-of-field control over slower kit zooms. Somehow i did not find reason to use it because the images from the 12-40mm are clearly sharper and usually more pleasing. There is some corner shading present when the lens is used wide open: we note corners that are 2/3 of a stop darker than the center when the lens is used at ƒ/1. Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. And Panasonic's modern take for Micro Four Thirds fits the bill nicely: though it's very affordable, it's capable of producing lovely images.Constant preview does not solve it, when you press focus button camera opens aperture all the way to f/1. What this means it won’t feel as good as something like a Leica lens or anything with a metal focus ring. The wide manual focus ring is ribbed, but in any event the electronic action is light and it is very easy to use.

Analysis of the camera’s raw files reveals that Panasonic has adopted its usual approach of leaving a little more barrel distortion than would be usual if this were a DSLR lens, and correcting it in software. Lens flare can cause some loss of contrast especially when shooting directly into bright light sources, while multiple ghosts of bright sources can manifest themselves as colored 'blobs' that get more defined the more you stop the lens down. We shoot both images using the default JPEG settings and manual white balance of our test bodies, so the images should be quite consistent from lens to lens. Therefore, it remains very good value especially to system newcomers keen to own a lightweight but high performing lens that suits a broad range of photographic genres. But what I really like about it, is the bokeh, which I found surprising as I never really cared about this aspect. Portability without compromising creativity is a key selling point of the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) camera standard that was announced in 2008 by two major imaging brands, Olympus (now OM Digital Solutions) and Panasonic. But when I checked with my other lenses (including Olympus), I saw the exact same thing, only a bit more muted (so harder to spot and might only pop up with stronger light sources). If you are going to be using this particular lens you don’t need as much lighting even in a studio situation to get the maximum results and also make sure you shot is exposed properly.
