Note: Cleaning will completely remove any protection of a previous preservative, oil, treatment, stain or paint. Repeat this process until the droplet of oil sits as a bead on the surface of the wood and no longer soaks in to the timber. As an example, softwood decking that is old will likely require more oil than a relatively new hardwood decking that still retains a fair amount of natural oil.This allows the grain in the wood to open and breathe and aids penetration and adhesion of the finish. years later it had almost all disappeared, so I cleaned the deck with Cuprinol deck cleaner, let it dry for a day (This was late spring/early summer), and then applied 3 coats of this decking oil. Wipe any excess with a lint-free cotton cloth and allow to dry for 24 to 48 hours before using the decking. for new hardwoods, it is recommended to leave the wood exposed for up to 12 months before applying any finish. Continue to apply until the timber no longer absorbs the oil, older timbers may require more quotes depending on the condition.

My choice as a decking oil, the clear version colours the wood to an attractive golden brown and is not slippery at all in the wet.
