Your successes and failures, encounters and challenges can affect the entire group raising the ante and fueling interaction. Obviously, I knew what would have happened if the players did something differently or if the dice fell another way.

The player to the right of the current leader will become the controller; leadership passes following every world map movement and if a battle moves onto another adventure map.I’m not sure if this is going to be widely available, but this version of the map is just too big to be practical for most game tables, and worse yet it comes folded up in the box, complete with creases. You nod back, and take to the rooftops, and later descend to the sewers, where you hope to find the missing piece that will take you to the one place that will doom or save this land…the Dark Spire. Plan accordingly as you’ll find it a mighty tight fit if you try to play on a small folding card table.

The players are also faced with choosing from a variety of party decisions throughout as well as skill checks for success or failure during encounters. The story journal will also point the players toward different locations across the world map and the current party leader gets to choose where the group travels to next. I’ve always enjoyed – as did everyone around my table interestingly enough – to have the players make their decisions, roll their dice, and play through the adventure/campaign without any regrets or non-stop second guessing.I, on the other hand, chose to embrace a more passive approach, trying to work with those we encountered and only lashed out when I felt wronged. Folklore really accomplishes the same feel as a DnD campaign but without huge time commitment and “complicated” skill checks. The character selection is very well rounded and it was initially tough for me to decide who I wanted to be. When my party visits town everybody naturally runs off to take care of their own little errands and it makes for a neat little story experience. Speaking of rules, they aren’t overly complex and once you start playing you’ll grasp everything fairly quickly.
