As an added bonus, it looks like the Flat Cats will prove good spider deterrents too – at last my son will be able to sleep with his window open (he’s 18). But he jumps up multiple times a days, primarily in the morning and kneads me and sleeps for 20-60 minutes before going about his day.

I've never had a cat who seemed quite so protective, but your cat Samson sounds very sweet and like he's really attached to you. I do have a suggestion (you have probably thought of this already), is there a way in manufacturing to make the mesh white where the Velcro is? In the summer, the room warmed up a lot and, with my computers producing even more heat, I really needed to open the windows.
