About this deal

As adept as I am at getting patterns out of smaller fabric pieces, even I couldn't get a whole dress out of this amount! The term “breaking patterns” traditionally has been associated with dangerous behaviors, such as taking actions to break the pattern of addiction and other bad habits. From best-selling authors and Finnish sewing duo behind the indie pattern label Named, Laura and Saara Huhta will build your sewing repertoire and give you the confidence to further design, alter and modify your makes. The patterns work well for most shapes although I may skip the very closer fitting ones because I prefer loose styles. OK, yes, yes, intellectually I entirely understand that it wasn’t actually free but is rather a symbol of what an absurd amount of money I spend there.

Surprisingly, I didn’t have to make any length adjustments to the bodice section because when I measured the the shoulder-to-waist length, it fit my vertical measurements exactly. I may have to change the ribbon at some point since the vintage silk is so worn that it is probably coming to pieces after a while. This was a great day in Malmö where we crammed in a visit to a nature reserve, a boat tour around the city canal, plus plenty of beer and nosh. Still, though, the more I use the Breaking the Pattern book, the more I have a few very practical beefs with it. You will build your skills as you work through the book and with plenty of variations suggested for each garment, there's lots of room for you to add your own personal touches and quirks to each design.Breaking the Pattern is the first authentic dressmaking book that showcases the beauty and uniqueness of Scandinavian style. The pattern doesn’t have a lining and I can’t really picture how I could add one without needing tons of fabric (since there is no waist seam I can’t think of a way to only line part of it). It would be so much easier if you could just keep the book open flat without constantly needing to re-open it and find you page.

I’ve always thought that this is something that makes this book less accessible for inexperienced sewists. Designed for the fashion-conscious, this book equips you with the tools to create a coherent capsule wardrobe – complete with an enticing collection of 20 timeless garments that are easy to make, wear and combine. Best thing about it is I got this fabric almost free as my reward as a loyalty club member so it feels even more special. First of all, I added 2 pockets, one zippered pocket on the outside of the bag, and a patch pocket on the inside.Complete with stunning photography, clear illustrations and instructions, this book shows you how to create a coherent capsule wardrobe – complete with a collection of 20 garments that are easy to make, wear and combine with each other. In all honesty, this one is a little bit of an entirely self-induced mess and my shortening of the bodice makes it look, well, kind of weird. I love the fabric and I love the shape of the blouse and I think they both combined to make this turn out fabulously.

The only thing that I was worried about is that the fabric might be too light in weight for the pattern. Improve your sewing expertise as you work through the book, and use the six essential building blocks to choose, customise and adapt the designs to create a variety of beautiful clothes to fit your figure.I'm also the designer behind West Beach Knits knitting patterns and I host a Knitting and Sewing channel on YouTube where you can see all of this in person. It’s the kind of dress that you can really change up based on skirt and sleeve length and fabric choice. Also, I have to make hardly any alterations, their block is for a person measuring 172cm and that’s pretty close to where I am, so no lengthening required!

I’ve also suggested to a few clients who are juggling a variety of commitments that we adjust the length of our upcoming individual coaching sessions. It’s not a large size range, which is unfortunate because the designs of the patterns are so beautiful. From his perspective, being content with options rather than driving for optimal solutions will allow enterprises to manage the chaos, make adjustments, and still achieve success. The fabric I chose to pair up with this lovely pattern is a soft pink viscose challis with little dabs of black dots.

This fabric is chestnut peachskin which I bought in a little splurge at Fabric Godmother literally days before last year's Black Friday. Although I probably could have put together a package of similar patterns from the Burda Style magazines that I already own, the curated look of the e-book really sold me, and the modelled photos of the Camille jumpsuit look so sophisticated! The only option I had (seeing as I wasn't going to adjust the shoulders) was to cut the dress at the waistline, then sew it together again where my waistline actually sits.
