About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Also, middle book syndrome being what it is, this did feel like we were building a lot towards something.

stars - While I don't think this is quite as strong as the first book (the game element in particular I felt was a bit off and dragged at times), the connection to Amari as our protagonist is definitely still there and the ending is such a cliffhanger! I went into Amari and the Great Game expecting great things, but it ultimately fell a bit flat for me. Only one of them will inherit the family fortune and so a race is afoot to save the dwindling Petty-Squabble empire and win the love of their parents. She faces judgement and prejudices and she makes mistakes along the way: making her even more loveable and relatable in my eyes. The breathtaking sequel to former Waterstones Children's Book of the Month Amari and the Night Brothers pitches our formidable heroine into a battle to decide the Night Brothers' successor and avert catastrophe for all magiciankind.

Und als ob das nicht schon reichen würde taucht auch noch die Magische Allianz auf und zwingt Amari in ein gefährliches Abenteuer, bei dem sie alles gewinnen oder alles verlieren könnte. The Great Game is both mysterious and deadly, but among the winner's magical rewards is Quinton's last hope . As in the first book, the worldbuilding was also great and the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs was a super cool setting. And if she finds the long-lost Forever Fern before the twins, both Jungledrop and our world will crumble.Nachdem "Amari und die Nachtbrüder" mich so positiv überrascht hatte wollte ich unbedingt wissen, wie es mit Amari, Elsie und auch Dylan weitergehen würde. Jumanji meets Ready Player One in this fast-paced adventure featuring incredible real-life heroes, from the internationally bestselling author of The Uncommoners series. The surprises and story never slow down for a minute in this magical, astonishing world, with a heroine who's like Buffy meets Meg Murry multiplied by Shuri to the power of awesome. But by the time I’d reached Chapter 5 in this second book, I had been having steady Harry Potter flashbacks. And her best friend Elsie is really great from the off, being just so appealing and likeable as a person.

Praise for AMARI AND THE NIGHT BROTHERS: "The story introduces a world of enchantment, danger, excitement, and humor. From page one i was gripped with the mystery of the time freeze and wanted to follow along on the adventure with Amari and her friends. Just because we are dealing with a supernatural world/problems doesn’t mean that the themes in it aren’t relatable!I love how this book brings up issues of discrimination but describes it in a way that a younger audience can understand. I genuinely love this series so, so much - the plot is fantastic, the world building is perfect, and.

The surprises and story never slow down for a minute in this magical, astonishing world, with a heroine who’s like Buffy meets Meg Murry multiplied by Shuri to the power of awesome. Sometimes there wasn't enough balance between The Great Game challenges and the time freeze mystery, and regular training at school. Es wurde wohl darauf gebaut, dass man im ersten Band jederzeit nachschlagen kann, was man wissen muss. From the first pages, Amari is at once self-possessed and an underdog, battling racism, bias and poverty, all later mirrored in her efforts to find her brother inside the fantastical labyrinth of the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs. But this one had a lot of things that pop up a lot in middle grade books, and while that isn’t necessarily bad, it just made the book less original and a lot less exciting for me.Before Amari can even get to another summer session, she must deal with blame being placed on her for a time freeze that has left the Supernatural Congress frozen. Sie ist selbstsicherer geworden und steht mehr für sich ein, obwohl sie aufgrund ihrer Fähigkeiten diskriminiert und schikaniert wird. What I really noticed, however, was how lost I felt when reading this book, especially during the first half of the novel. But between the fearsome new Head Minister’s strict anti-magician agenda, fierce Junior Agent rivalries, and her brother Quinton’s curse steadily worsening, Amari’s plate is full. As a former black girl misfit who wanted nothing more in the world than to be magical, this book is a song to my soul.
