About this deal

There is absolutely nothing better than a blindsighted twist in a psychological thriller and unfortunately there wasn’t a single one in this book.

I was always several chapters ahead of the characters and it sapped a lot of tension out of the story. So when she meets an unexpectedly charming man in a café, no one is more surprised than Laurel at how quickly their flirtation develops into something deeper. For me this one was a little difficult to read because the behavior of this probable psychopath was just so twisted and ugly. They are ordinary people with ordinary worries who have ordinary awful things happen, and who react like I imagine that I, or any of my friends, would react should a child of mine go missing. From the ten-million-copy bestselling author comes a brand new look for this compulsively twisty psychological thriller that will keep you hooked to the very last page. Laurel's life stalled, her marriage fell apart and the relationship with her two remaining children is strained.

If you enjoy a turn-around, revealing ending with a few creepy characters, you will enjoy THEN SHE WAS GONE. Her multilayered characters are sheer perfection, and even the most astute thriller reader won't see where everything is going until the final threads are unknotted. It's a shame, though, that we know a major aspect of Ellie's fate almost immediately, seeing as this is probably what I would have cared about most. But, finally, after years of just going through the motions of life, Laurel meets Floyd, a single dad with a young daughter named Poppy. She's disarmed by Floyd’s charm, but when she meets his young daughter, Poppy, Laurel is startled by her resemblance to Ellie. Though some give-away clues are revealed early on, you’re still taken on a journey that will most definitely pull your heart in many directions.

Lisa Jewell is the internationally bestselling author of sixteen novels, including the New York Times bestseller Then She Was Gone, as well as I Found You, The Girls in the Garden, and The House We Grew Up In.If the author can find just the right combination of these things, then I will be right there ready to throw more stars their way. Skillfully told by several narrators (some of them ghostly), Jewell's gripping novel is an emotionally resonant story of loss, grief, and renewal.
