About this deal
I tested the shoes in the White/Grey/Lime Green colourway and to be honest didn't find them all too attractive to begin with, though I have to say they grew on me a little as testing went on. There's honestly nothing too fancy here to put golfers off. Adidas say this is their most lightweight spiked golf shoe yet and that the primary focus was on comfort. It was designed for golfers like myself who prefer to walk the course and carry their bag so I was intrigued to see if they delivered the goods. The is really lightweight but it is also very stable. Generally with a lightweight shoe you lose out on some stability when you’re swinging the club as they don’t have that stiffness to hold your feet securely in place. The Stability Fin did its job. Additionally there is the Sprintskin tech which is a lightweight four layer waterproof (one-year warranty) upper made from innovative textiles and polyurethane films. True to form Adidas have looked to the advice of their tour players, the likes of Xander Schauffele, Sergio Garcia, Collin Morikawa and the world no.1 Dustin Johnson to help create the ZG21. Apparently they have been telling the brand they wanted a high-performance spiked shoe that was lightweight and extremely comfortable (surprise, surprise).
This is then coupled with boost cushioning (which we have loved at Golfalot in recent years - especially in the Adidas Tour360 Primeknit Shoes) and it gives players lightweight comfort and stability with every swing and step. I simply can’t fault the performance. This shoe does everything it’s supposed to do. With some products (golf clubs especially) you read about all the tech and what it is supposed to achieve but you don’t really know if it’s a load of old nonsense or not as in many cases it’s impossible to tell. Bauer Media Group consists of : Bauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, Every person who saw my ZG21s for the first time said something along the lines of “those are some good looking shoes.” I attribute the response to the blended, athletic look that appeals to a variety of tastes. The heel has the look of a running shoe, while the toe has a clean, somewhat traditional golf shoe look. The fade from dark green to off white is distinctive as is the texture on the toe. Yellow logos and sole add some flash. An aspect of the design I did like however was the fact that Adidas have designed these shoes with both genders in mind. There isn't a men's ZG21 then a women's ZG21 in the predictable colourways. Everything about them is quite gender neutral - with a nod to modern styling over men's or women's styling. This kind of attitude I'm a big fan of. The Swingplane Traction sole also did exactly what adidas claim it does and as mentioned already the Lightstrike Foam sole provided excellent cushioning, especially when walking up and down the hilly ground at my local course.
The two BOA models feature the new BOA Fit System, a ‘Y’-strap design that’s a first in the sport and provides an even higher level of performance. This product is made with Primegreen, a series of high-performance recycled materials. 50% of the upper is recycled content. No virgin polyester. With an emphasis on comfort and weight, it would be easy to think the ZG21 had to sacrifice on traction or stability, but I found neither was compromised. The adidas designers seem to have found the sweet spot between mobility and stability in the ZG21. There’s flex when needed for weight transfer, but also ample lateral stability.
