By taking the necessary steps to protect your sublimated vinyl, you can avoid common issues such as fading, blurring, and loss of detail. In this section, we will explore three key measures you can take to protect your vinyl: using heat transfer vinyl (HTV), maintaining proper temperature and pressure settings, and applying protective coatings or sealants. So let’s bring the heat on! Sublimation Heat Presses The best way to sublimate on permanent vinyl is to use transfer paper cut in the same shape as the vinyl.

While it is possible to print on natural fibers such as cotton or rayon, the results won’t be as vibrant or long-lasting, and will eventually fade away. When printing on cotton fabric, it is important to use a pre-treatment spray or coating to help the ink bond with the fabric. Find the Best Temperature What you typically cannot use is a household iron, because it just doesn’t get hot enough. Sublimation ink activates at 350°F, or 175°C and typically irons just don’t get hot enough for the dye sublimation process.By using heat transfer vinyl, maintaining proper temperature and pressure settings, and applying protective coatings or sealants, you can effectively prevent sublimation issues on vinyl. Mugs or Tumblers — Again, mugs and tumblers made with a specific one-day event in mind won’t necessarily be used often, making vinyl the perfect application.Additionally, exposure to excessive moisture or humidity can impact the sublimation process. Moisture can interfere with the sublimation ink’s ability to turn into a gas and penetrate the vinyl, leading to subpar results. To cause sublimation, you need to set the heat on your press to at least 375℉. Once this heats up, press the transfer and vinyl together on the shirt for 30 seconds.
