On July 1, 2015, USA Today published an article about the film which included the first 90-second preview. On January 20, 2015, at London's 2015 Toy Fair, some merchandise was unveiled labeled My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games. Cutie Mark Crusaders (voiced by Michelle Creber, Claire Corlett and Madeleine Peters) – A club consisting of three younger students, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo.

When they end up stranded on a nearby island, Sunset leads them an alternate way home through a portal to Equestria, where Fluttershy briefly turns into a Pegasus.
