As The Kryptonite Man, The Prankster, Toyman, Metallo, Intergang, Neutron, Puzzler, Livewire, Hellgramite, Bloodsport, Riot, and a mad scientist all feature. This came to an end late in 1940, and ever since then, Supes has been the Thou Shalt Not Kill boyscout we all know and love.

Pre- Crisis, Bizarro was always played as sympathetic, being dangerous only because of his stupidity. Jordan’s name came up in the tweets, so it would appear as though they either don’t know or it’s a post-credit sequence for Shazam! Enemy Without: An interesting play on this occurs in chapter 8, where Superman gets zapped by a space anomaly that splits him into two halves: the human, unpowered Clark Kent, and a completely Kryptonian Superman. After Superman: The Animated Series gave Inspector Bill Henderson a Race Lift as a black man, the comics brought the new version in as Mike Henderson. This version of Superman is a powerful, but fallible man who wants to do the right thing, but is faced with increasingly dark and complex problems from Samaritan Syndrome, isolation, sacrifice, even assisted suicide, all weighting heavily on Clark's moral code.

Restraining Bolt: Lex devises a way to deactivate Metallo's cyborg parts, effectively turning him into a statue. Superman finds it to be in the form of an alien hermit who's dying to a fatal disease and is quietly begging to be put out of his mercy, and it's still a tough decision for Supes. Each chapter has its own unique flavour, giving King an opportunity to play with different narration and dialogue styles.

No one will believe him, however, and further the Council of Scientists that run Krypton's government demand that neither he nor his wife Lara make an attempt to leave the planet, lest they cause "needless panic. Defusing the Tyke-Bomb: Clark Kent and Lois Lane acted this way toward Lor-Zod, son of General Zod — one of the worst enemies of Superman — and his henchwoman Ursa. As they banter, he states he knows he can't save everyone but wants to save Alice, before he flies away from the Earth.

Superman himself tends to meet this attitude with confusion — he doesn't see himself this way at all and doesn't understand why someone would. They're quite civilized and seemingly benevolent, with a healer attempting to revive an unconscious Superman by using his own life force, one who also has a wife and children. When not fighting evil, he masquerades as a mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, The Daily Planet; this career helps him find disasters and emergencies that much sooner and does not require him to closely account for his whereabouts to his employers. Part of the reason he wears bright colors, no mask, and tries so hard to maintain a reputation as a boy scout is so that innocent people will understand that they don't need to be terrified of him — making him the exact opposite of Batman, a mortal man who expends tremendous effort to ensure that people are terrified of him.

Clark finds himself dealing with this in chapter 1, amidst the broader conflict of his constant worries that even he can be outstretched in his ability to save everyone. Superman leaves her with people who he states will take good care of her and promises he will come around whenever she needs him.
