About this deal
The villains tell Alex everything Why, oh why, do you have to tell your top secret plans to a boy who is now very well-known in the criminal world as a dangerous spy? First off, we're introduced to Ravi Chandra, who plants a bomb in a nuclear power station and doesn't live very long. The next day, Bennett takes Alex out in a Piper J-3 Cub crop duster and makes him apply the contents of the plane over the fields.
It seems the inside of the bus is sound proof, or everyone just ignored the loud thud that came from the top of the roof. Forced to ask MI6 for protection, Alex finds himself being manipulated in a deadly game that could lead to the destruction of an entire East African country, but Alex manages to kill Desmond McCain in the end. Once again Alex is faced with some rich maniac who has a plan to kill millions of innocent people and all that stands in the way of his plans is Alex Ryer ! The gist is that the same idiot journalist ratted Alex out to the bad guys, and was shot to death for his effort. Cool fight involving a gun, the same yucky mushroom soup, barrels of leaded oil, and a leftover explosive that Alex hadn’t used on his mission in the GM foods place, and then boom.He works for an Indian Intelligence Agency hell-bent on taking revenge on the bad guy for orchestrating the bombing in India. The next day, McCain interrogates Alex, torturing him by making him hang over a river which is infested with crocodiles. The fact that Alex involved himself in so much of the bad guy's overall plot was different, and it makes sense given that Alex is the kind of kid that he is.
I've looked for a good spy series and I was simply delighted when I finally picked up the Alex Rider series. My 10yrs old grandson was showing little interest in stories so I introduced him to Alex Rider and he is hooked. There were eleven more books in the series - the latest, Never Say Die, was published in 2017 - and they are now being developed for TV. After cutting my teeth on the hugely popular show, Robin of Sherwood, I moved on to work with David Suchet and his brilliant portrayal of Hercule Poirot, writing about nine or ten episodes of Agatha Christie's Poirot. When Alex leaves shortly afterwards in the company of his friend and her father, their car suffers an 'accident' which is nearly fatal.
In his 8th outing, Alex begins the book in Scotland where he is vacationing with the Pleasures and attends a New Years Eve party where he meets his new adversary, the Reverend Desmond McCain, a rich philanthropist whom he beats in a poker game in true James Bond style and in true Alex Rider style he ends up welcoming the New Year not by enjoying the fireworks but once again working against time and the elements to save himself and Sabina and her father from an icy grave. Indian spy rather conveniently wakes up in time to steal a plane and rescue Alex before he falls into the newly made waterfall and dies.
Alex is now killing henchmen left and right and nothing is ever said about how the violence is affecting him. Among the charities to respond to the disaster is First Aid, a British charity known for its unfailing generosity and being there as soon as possible. After all, Alex is my favorite teen spy, and the one that truly kicked off a lot of the action-packed series that have since jumped on board. Jack congratulates Alex that it's his fifteenth birthday shortly and promises him that MI6 won't ever use him again. And how can he pull himself up when he is was feeling fatigued twenty minutes ago and don't forget the wind pushing on him.
Most boys his age wouldn't walk away from a mystery or a grievance either, and would look for ways to strike back. It is the exact poison that a man from Mississippi tried to sent to President Obama and a Congressman from Capital Hill recently. However, when they land for refuelling at Laikipia, McCain (who used his larger plane to escape the flooding of his base) appears and shoots Rahim dead. It's just a fast, adrenaline charged experience with mindless action and feats that would bring Bruce Wayne to his knees.Alex is sent to the school principal, Henry Bray, and receives one day's suspension after apparently falling through the emergency door of the coach on the school trip, and getting badly injured; the injuries really came from his chase at Greenfields. But as I grew older (and my original audience entered their twenties) I felt a need to move into adult writing. I loved the rooftop race with the ductwork and the time when Alex hung suspended over the hungry crocodiles. It's usually played on long car journeys and keeps him and his 8yrs old brother happy and contented on the journeys.
